About Me

The short version is: I'm just trying to live a better life. My old life wasn't awful in any way, but it wasn't fulfilling either. So I moved on, and now I hope to just travel, learn, and contribute to the world.

What could I have offered the world by sitting in an office making rich people richer? I was always waiting for an opportunity to do some good, and then I realised that you have to seek our those opportunities, not wait for them to land on your doorstep.

So what can I say about me? I guess I'm an optimistic realist, or a realistic optimist. Either way I'm hoping to do some good, some how. And maybe I'll get to meet some awesome people at the same time - fingers crossed :).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to be integrated into someone else's life for a while - make small contributions to individuals. For example I could help out around the house - while they can focus on the things that are more important to them. Maybe I can be some good company to someone who just needs someone to talk to. Or maybe I can just be an activity buddy - I think I make a decent plus one.

This forum is about meeting people, and contributing to other people's lives, and that is what I want to do.

Interests

In summary, I pretty much like gaining knowledge, anything animal related, and any movie made about a comic book character (except for the original Spiderman movies because Tobey Maguire is the worst).

More importantly I want to ADD to my interests. There is so much I don't know about the world, so many things yet to try!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music is a tough one so I have to split it into two. Music I like listening to while not necessarily dancing includes 80's rock, 70's R&B, classical, meditative, Australian blues/rock, and some pop music.

Music I like dancing to is basically all of the above plus any pop song made between the 60's and now. Please don't ever play me heavy metal and ask me to try and appreciate it, because it just won't happen.

Books - I love an adventure, or a period piece. For books, my favourites so far have been Tanamera, Tai Pan, War & Peace, and anything else by Dan Brown or James Clavell. Back in the day I also thoroughly enjoyed Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and anything by Sara Douglass (what can I say, I was a dreamer!).

Movies - similar deal. Anything that is an adventure, I love. Anything that includes a comic book character, I love. Thought provoking movies also get me going - the likes of Inception, Looper, or a good scientific or anthropological documentary! Finally, I will make no apologies for my love of Disney classics. Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin, all the way.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Wow...so much pressure. I booked a holiday to Laos on a whim once - 2 weeks out from the departure date. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I guess the whole reason I'm quit my job and left everything behind is to make sure that one day I have an amazing response to this question.

Teach, Learn, Share

Anything I can! I could try teaching English, or provide a different perspective on the world. I've been told I'm a great listener, and that sometimes I even offer great advice. I'm just happy to share my time.

I'm a half decent cook as well - desserts and breakfast foods are my specialties, and my salads aren't bad either. You're also more than welcome to add to my repertoire.

Also I'm a chronic minimalist and organiser, and can help with basic budgets, de-cluttering, CV editing, all that kind of stuff! Many complicated things can be simplified - sometimes you just need an outsider's perspective.

On paper I'm not an chef, cleaner, accountant, counselor or teacher, but give me a chance, and maybe I could be just the person you need in your life. Even if it's just for a day, week or month.
