About Me

CURRENT MISSION

More dancing!

ABOUT ME

Slightly crazy, curious, talkative, nerdy, creative, daydreaming and adventurous human beings. Normal is quite boring, and luckily we surround us-selves mostly with interesting and silly people who seem to think the same.

We like to socialize and enjoy cooking up a nice meal, sharing it with friends or family over lots of talking. We also like watching films, and going out for a dance and drinks. In that aspect we are quite normal.

Although reggae and dancehall is mostly Jens' domain, we both like dancing to it. Jens is the 'frikadelle'-master (Danish meat balls), while Kira does the babaganush and various improvised dishes from an almost empty fridge.

We both spend way to much time on the internet and at our computers. Jens is teaching history and English at college while Kira is into visual anthropology.
We like (Irish) coffee, humus, 70% chocolate, and nice beer. Favorites include bundling up and wearing sweaters (it's cold in Denmark), playing boardgames, rain or snow when you're inside, sun when you have the opportunity to go out, enjoying warm and light summer evenings on the balcony, a nap in the afternoon, a walk in the woods or along the ocean, the nice stones and shells you can find there, sofas (couches indeed!)...

-----------------------------------------------------------
In 2008-2009 we spend half a year living in Tucson, Arizona, US, studying at the university there. It was a great and truly intense experience to live in the US for a while, traveling from California to Tennessee, seeing incredible diverse culture, landscape and meeting the most fantastic people.

In 2011-12 Kira lived in London doing her MA, so we both spend a lot of time here during that year. However, we haven't seen as much of the UK as we would have liked to.

During the summer of 2013 we went to Jamaica for some adventures, hiking and Sumfest and couched a few times along the way.

PHILOSOPHY

Follow your heart and give room to the ones you love.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We host people; let them crash our purple couch whenever possible.
We surf couches and chat; discuss the world, politics, Denmark.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We've hosted french, american, romanian, american and swedish couchsurfer. The summer of 2007 we surfed some wonderful couches in Istanbul. We surfed a bunch of places during our great half year in the US in 2008. Latest we haven't surfed or hosted much, apart from a surf in Oslo and hosting old CS friends from the US.
We're looking forward to meet more couchsurfers and hopefully surf lots of couches in the very near future!

Music, Movies, and Books

The cinema is a great place; being in the dark, warm room which makes you forget everything around you and sucks you into its shifting universes is just amazing. We mostly watch dramas, while Jens goes with mates to see horror and war movies. Kira likes to watch documentaries and is a fan of Victor Kossakovsky and Lucien Castaing-Taylor.
Lately we saw Beast of the Southern Wild and loved it.

We love loads of different kinds of music and have very different taste of music. We both especially like jazz and reggae. Kira likes to go out and dance to electronic music while Jens likes metal.

We both like to read novels, although mostly Jens makes time for it. A few English classics have been on since Jens started teaching. Kira likes Haruki Murakami and really enjoyed reading 'The Other Hand' by Chris Cleave. Jens, being a history geek, also reads historic books for fun. While doing research Kira reads mostly academic stuff on photography and blindness. Recently read 'Touching the Rock' which is great.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Staying together since 2000.

Teach, Learn, Share

We can teach you about history, linguistics, photography, ethnographic film, how to open a bottle with a lighter or how to fix your bicycle.
