About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Economic, environmental, and social sustainability.

ABOUT ME

I'm a Floridian now living happily in Southern California. My apartment is a mile from the famed Santa Monica pier. Just living the dream, I suppose.

I really enjoy my job, though I still feel frustrated at times when the sun is shining bright and I'm sitting at my desk. This site, for me, is a constant reminder of the perfectly acceptable and downright exciting world of long term travel.

I assume that most people I meet are trustworthy people with interesting lives, and probably not kidnappers like my parents taught me. Seriously mom, talking to strangers is not that bad.

PHILOSOPHY

To live life on my terms, regardless of the sacrifices that entails.

2nd philosophy: a pessimist is never disappointed.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I first used this site in 2008 to surf as I moved across the United States. At my first place in California, the roommates completely nixed the idea of hosting. At my next place, we didn't have a couch. Now I'm in Santa Monica with agreeable roommates and a nice comfy couch. I'm glad to be back and active in the Couch Surfing community.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I moved cross country for grad school and couch surfed with some really cool people along the way. Since I was traveling alone, it was absolutely the best way to make the trip.

Interests

Energy efficiency coupled with worthwhile design, building science, good grammar, the beach, learning about other ideas and cultures, and really just learning in general.

Music, Movies, and Books

I really need to see more movies. The holes in my list are embarrassing. I read a lot of non-fiction, though the topic is always changing as new interests work their way in and out of my life. I play guitar like a 10th grader who got a starter kit for Christmas. Sad thing is, I've been playing for like 8 years now. I do love classic rock, just can't play it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent a summer in high school commercial salmon fishing in Southeast Alaska. When the fishing was slow, we'd chase whales in our boat. Alaska is the most amazing place in the United States. If you haven't been, go. Like seriously, in the next year, go.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can't teach you how to whistle, but I'd really appreciate if you can teach me.

I spent seven years in college. I'd love to share with you any of the random science knowledge or general opinions I have.
