About Me
CURRENT MISSION
My quest is to travel and work my way around the world. I've spent about 8 years living, working, studying and travelling in Asia. The next part of my journey is Latin America. I'm hoping to travel from México through Central America and on into South America. Along the way I plan to pick up odd jobs, study Spanish and generally try to learn as much about the different cultures and places I visit.
ABOUT ME
I have the urge to travel and see as much as the world as I can. I love learning new things about a place, culture, or people. I'm an active person, who likes to get out and do things. I teach EFL and travel between contracts. I taught in South Korea for 2 years and China for almost 5 years.
PHILOSOPHY
The world is a book: some people stay on the same page for their whole lives; others rush to the end without enjoying the stuff in between. I prefer to delve in on whatever page interests me and go from there. I'm in no rush to finish, and I enjoy the experience whilst I can.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've hosted people before in China and South Korea and I've met people for drinks.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've stayed with friends in England and Korea before couch surfing on the Internet. I've stayed with a few people and hosted a few people. It's been a great experience so far.
Interests
I enjoy being active. I like to hike, cycle, scramble, play football and swim. I really like running and completed the Shanghai Marathon in 2014.
I'm an avid reader, especially sci-fi and history (narrative history, historical-fiction or just plain old history).
I love learning new things, particularly languages. I can speak Chinese and a little Korean. I'm currently learning Spanish.
Music, Movies, and Books
I like a wide range of movies, music and books; and my tastes are always changing.
I like British, Chinese and World Cinema.
I'm into Electronic, Rock, Dance, Classical music - anything really.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Hiking on the Great Wall of China. Most famous monuments are good to look at but the Great Wall is one in which you can actually walk along and interact with. We hiked 10km along a stretch of the wall about 3 1/2 hours outside of Beijing. In that time I really got to appreciate the sheer scale of the wall and engineering achievement of its construction.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach a bit of Korean and Chinese.
Also, if your first language is not English then I can teach you some interesting English words!
I can teach people how to play Chinese Chess (Xiangqi) and some Chinese card games.
I can teach you how to juggle - I'm still learning myself but happy to show you the basics.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I enjoy cooking so I'm happy to cook you up a meal during my stay. I may be English but I'm not that bad of a cook, I hope!
