About Me

Hello! :D I'm a media studies and studio art student (I study the power of social media, and I paint portraits and the landscapes I travel too). I'm studying in Claremont which is on the outskirts of Los Angeles in South California. Before coming to college I lived in a town called Milngavie (pronounced Mill-ga-ee) on the outskirts of Glasgow in Scotland.

Like many other international students I love to travel! I was lucky to get to hostel my way across Japan last summer, and then stay with my friends in Seoul.

I'm also a mime. My love of theatre led me to train under Thomas Leabhart one of the worlds experts in teaching corporeal mime. Over my years of study I have learnt about the history of corporeal mime, and from my professor a great many mime secrets.

While I'm in school I try and explore America when I can. This spring break I went on a road trip through California, Nevada, Utah and Arizona. I was able to hike in some amazing national parks, and also camp in some very questionable places. My job on the trip was cook, and I have some fond memories of cooking up a bucket full of Paella just outside the Grand Canyon!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love the culture of travelling and staying with new people. Staying with local residents helps make travel affordable for everyone and allows people to get a feel for the true culture of their location. As an international student I've seen the power that cultural exchange has to make the world more vibrant and connected. Along with meeting great new travel friends, I also love being able to impart some of my own culture.

Interests

I spend a lot of my time social dancing in the styles of Lindy Hop, Blues, and West Coast Swing (which I also teach to other students at my college). One of my favorite parts of social dance is going to dance conventions as it combines some of my favorite things: dance, travel, and meeting new people.

Like many Brits I also love tea! I'm always looking for new, excellent tea everywhere I travel, and I always love to bring and share some of my own favorite teas.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love any blues or swing music! Right now I'm listening to more electronica - dub step, trap, glitch hop - as I am learning more about fusion dance and music. My sister is a drummer in several bands in Glasgow, so I also listen to a lot of newly recorded doom metal and punk music.

I'm a sucker for marvel movies. I tend to watch more tv as of late (and due to Netflix) and my all time favourites would be Doctor Who, Buffy, Firefly ( :'( ), Orphan Black, Death Note, and Kamisama Hajimemashita (one of the most adorable anime shows I've ever seen.)

I love all the Terry Pratchet books I've ever had the joy of reading, Game of Thrones, and I've just started reading The Shannara Chronicles.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This year I rappelled down a 100 ft waterfall in South California.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love teaching dance to anyone interested!

I love sharing different teas everywhere I travel and now always carry a large bag filled with my favourite kinds! Right now it's filled with chai tea, thistle tea from Scotland, and Rooibos from Madrid!

After travelling and living in Japan I have some great tips and advice for traversing the country. I've also perfected some great survival phrases to know!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love cooking and would always be more than happy to cook for hosts! My best dishes are Paella and Korma. I'm also learning to cook Japanese style!

I spent a summer working at MacDonalds and my cleaning skills are on point! Happy to help out around the place!

I love hosting and being hosted and often host people in Glasgow or help link up my British friends with my American friends' couches. I would love to help out with finding my host future places to stay should they ever need it!
