About Me

I’m Kirsten - mid thirties, world's worst vegetarian when there’s steak on offer, enthusiastic, wry, perky & quite frankly exhausting! I love meeting new people and learning new things - I live for it. I spend most of my time reading anything I can get my hands on, urbexing deliciously moody abandoned sites, writing smut, training in hand to hand combat or hiking in the stunning Yorkshire Dales that I call my home - we have hills, woods, waterfalls and lots and lots of sheep! And some pretty darned lovely country pubs *laughs* My other half and I are avid gamers, too, love music and are proud cat parents to two little feline tykes called Ash and Jinna. I’m a smoker but not in the house...outside only! Can be found reading in a corner, singing in the shower or anywhere cream cakes are sold.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’ve never been much of a one for a boring beach holiday and hotel rooms suck. I also love my little corner of the world and think it should be shown off! This seems like a great way to meet new people and share some awesome experiences.

Music, Movies, and Books

Everything! Rock music, rap metal, jazz and indie electronica mainly for music. Everything from Fleetwood Mac to Boris to Hed (PE). I like off-beat movies and blockbusters, rom-coms and action films. Favourite books include ‘Any Human Heart’ by William Boyd and ‘Don Emmanuel’s Nether Parts’ by Louis de Bernieres. We also have hundreds of fantasy, sci-fi and horror books for anyone who fancies curling up with a couple of cats for a few hours.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This year, I disappeared off for a week with sixteen people who became very close friends, to the mountains of Romania, training ten hours a day in my favourite combat discipline. Exhausting yet curiously peaceful, I found my happy place. Then I came home and slept for a week!

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to cook and will happily spend a few hours in the kitchen sharing recipes (and enjoying the fruits of our labours!) I also know a lot of the good hiking and running routes for anyone who wants to work those calories off afterwards *grins*.

If you wanted to stay with us, we’d get as involved as you wanted - whether you want a personal guide to the Dales and surrounding areas or just someone to share a glass of wine with in the evenings who can give you a few tips. There’s also Leeds and Manchester in easy reach and a direct train into the Lake District (though it’s quite old, slow and rattly!)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to cook and I am happy to pull something together in the kitchen for us all or to learn something new from them. Despite the chatter on here, I’m quite quiet, clean and tidy. I’m hungry to learn about anywhere I am, so I’ll be out exploring or asking you dozens of questions about the best place to grab a bite to eat and where to go! Mainly, though, I’m happy to chill out, eat some good food and pass the time nattering about life and everything in it.
