About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to become truly awesome

ABOUT ME

Not about me this part, but just want to let people that are looking for a couch in Manhattan (New York) know, I live a good 24 hour drive from there :) I live in the small but lovely town of Manhattan in Kansas which is also worth visiting, but is probably not the best place to stay if you want to visit the east coast. That said, we would love to have you over and show you the mid-west!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I surf and host as much as possible!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

The first time I couchsurfed I stayed with the family of a friend I met on this website in Chereponi, northern Ghana. It was an amazing experience and left a life long impression. I've only stayed for a week unfortunately but met great people and got to see the true Ghana:) in 2010 my friend Vanda and I travelled through the USA and couchsurfed the whole way down from Toronto to Columbia SC. We solely met awesome hosts and hope to repeat the trip at some point!

Interests

My main interests involve my studies. During my research I fell in love with shorebirds and I spend a lot of time studying them all around the world. Also, I enjoy cooking and baking (cakes jeej!)and yes, I will cook for you! Evenings I like to spend with friends and good beer, at home or in the pub.

And naturally as I am a member of this website I love to travel!

Music, Movies, and Books

I like a lot of music. No really, I can listen to almost anything. There are some favourites though. The Killers have been my alltime number one for a long time now, followed closely by Rammstein. Indie and goth rock currently dominate my playlists.
I love to read and do it excessively. Same as with the music I read books from every genre. My absolute favorite book is The Song of the Dodo, by David Quammen. If you're not afraid of a little bit biology, this book will hopefully inspire and awe you the way it did me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In Greenland I found a brood of a Sanderling with 4 chicks and when we caught the chicks for ringing, the parent bird jumped up on my hand to warm the chick I was holding. I have never experienced anything so special. The complete devotion of that bird to its chicks, no matter how potentially dangerous we would be to it.. hard to describe..so I filmed it! check http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkmndPT8INE bad quality but that is Sanderling Julia in my supervisors hand..

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach you a bit of my language ofcourse, but Im not sure Dutch is very useful to you all. When you visit the coast with me, I can tell you a whole lot about the birds that hang around in terms of species, migration, breeding and why I like studying them;)
