About Me

I was born in Australia to British parents, grew up in Dubai spent some time in Qatar before moving to Canada for University... I have a couple of passports so I'd say I'm somewhat "culturally confused" in terms of where I call home (the "from" section in my overview had me contemplating for an embarrassingly long time) but this has meant that traveling and global experiences have become as much of a part of me as one's nationality would be (another plus is being able to switch teams whilst watching the world cup based on who's doing better... just kidding, I'm no bandwagon fan.)

But yeah, basically I'm a recent university grad with a degree in Communications and one in English and now I'm employed at my University in a position geared to bettering student life on campus for international students who come to Calgary. It's cool because it's kind of full circle for me, having originally been an international student myself... Plus I get to actually work in a position where I'm constantly surrounded by people with different backgrounds which makes me feel a bit at home. Now I have a job (wahey), hoping to pick up where I left off and start flying to more cool places across the globe.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

This is a 'try something new' experience for me hence the terribly bare reference section. But yeah, couchsurfing has been recommended to me by several of my close friends and I do really value new experiences especially internationally as well as gaining new perspectives from extremely interesting people from very different backgrounds to myself and this seems like a good place to find those experiences.

Music, Movies, and Books

I LOVE going to concerts. You won't find me in any given time without tickets to some upcoming concert. Some people have houses, cars, bond investments as assets... I have concert tickets. Something about live music and the atmosphere of the audience just gets me. Going to some international music festivals is definitely on my bucket list. Some of my fav artists currently include the 1975, Bastille, Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys & Borns.

My English degree meant I had to read a tonne of books but I still manage to really enjoy reading. My favourite literary period is early to mid 19th century specifically Austen and Bronte sister novels.

I love going to the cinema, it's one of my favourite pastimes which means I will pretty much watch any film as I think all films have value in some way (I'm sure there are a couple that challenge this notion but I stand by it.) I've taken many film classes and also worked at a TV station to fulfill my passion for filmmaking/film watching, I wanted to be a film editor when I was younger. Also a dolphin trainer but that's a different story.

Other interests to note:

- I'm a huge football fan and love watching my team play, even if the time difference makes me wake up super early for games. Champions League season is my favourite season of the year.

- I enjoy stand up comedy a lot... Lee Mack, Jon Richardson & Kevin Bridges are a few of my 'go to's.

- Love tap dancing. Gene Kelly is one of my idols.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Represented Canada at the World Dance Championships in Germany in tap dancing.

Teach, Learn, Share

Tap dancing skills? Just kidding. I'm not really sure what I can teach or share but I'm excited to see what I can learn and what I can share through this experience!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Happy to help out where I can with pretty much anything. I enjoy checking out restaurants and cafes in new places, so if you have a favourite I'd be happy to get you lunch/dinner/coffee.
