About Me

I'm perhaps prone to getting ahead of myself but I like to think I have good intentions. I'm interested in most things given half a chance. Happiest when I'm spending time with people (new friends or old friends) or curled up with a book or out exploring.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have to confess I've not used couchsurfing much the past few years. However, I've just settled down in Glasgow (at least for the next few years whilst I do my PhD) and have a schedule that's better for meeting up with people and showing people them around a little.

When I lived in St Andrews I had the good fortune to host some very lovely people and show people around a little and would like to be able to do the same in Glasgow (and hopefully get to know the city better too by doing so). I've also had some fantastic experiences staying with people in Spain. The people I've stayed with have been very warm and generous, showing me about the place where they live and introducing me to their friends and I'd like to be able to pay it forward.

Interests

Music: playing it, listening to it and singing it. Being in the outdoors generally, but especially running and hiking. Books- fiction, poetry, science and philosophy especially. Science and philosophy are interests in themselves really. Stupid crazy dancing with my friends. Cooking and eating food.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Seeing the temple of Abu Simbel in Eqypt (the culmination of an obsession with ancient Egypt I had as a child). Hitch hiking to Munich was one of the more surreal and exciting experiences in my life. Certain conversations I've had with certain persons.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm very happy to participate in language exchanges and to swap recipes or cook with people. I can show people how to solder circuits and work an espresso machine. If somebody can teach me how to play the guitar that would be splendid.
