About Me

I am a single mother of a teenage boy. I am the oldest of three girls. I grew up in Durham, NC, then live in Roanoke, VA and Pittsburgh, PA for school. I enjoy learning, reading, and teaching. I currently teach Political Science at two regional community colleges. I have worked mostly in non-profits. My background includes public health, research, and mental health services. I enjoy giving back through community service and volunteer opportunities. I prefer non-fiction works. I enjoy meeting new people. And as a strategic thinker, I enjoy developing ideas and concepts for individuals and organizations.

Music, Movies, and Books

I don't really have a favorite music genre. I like a range including classical, rock, country, R&B, and rap.

I enjoy mostly comedies and dramas. Some of my favorite movies include, "Finding Forrester," "Saw" (although I will never watch again), "Home," and "The Sixth Man." My favorite actors include Jim Carrey, Will Smith, Steve Martin, Queen Latifah, Kevin Hart, Pierce Brosnan, etc.

Some of my favorite books are "The Alchemist," "Jonathan Livingston Seagull," "Things Fall Apart," "The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down," and "What Should I Do with My Life."

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Aside from having my son my first year of college and finishing on time, I once climbed to the top of a utility poll and jumped off in an exercise of trust and overcoming my fear. I did it, but it was definitely scary. Would I do it again? Yes!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach about Political Science, especially American Government and US State and Local Politics. I also have been called a walking book of useless knowledge. So, I have a range information that I carry around with me. I can share and teach about my experiences in public health, mental health, and community outreach.

Because of my varied background, I am able to develop ideas and concepts that bridge industries that typically not related. I really enjoy helping people come up with solutions to challenges that they may be facing personally or as part of a business or organization. I also enjoy helping people to discover (or confirm) their purpose.

I am interested in learning other languages, particularly Spanish, French, and Dutch.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my life experiences. I can share my joy of reading, music, and dancing. I can share my knowledge of political science, public health, mental health, diversity, black history, business development, and non-profit management.
