About Me

I spent a good part of my life becoming a scientist learning astrophysics, physics and chemistry. I spent about 5 years working as a research scientist in industry and quickly learned that there were larger political systems at play that I wanted to be a part of, specifically i wanted to change.

This came about by leaving my career, travelling, living in the middle east, and spending a lot of time learning history, politics, media, etc. Its hard for me to look away from what is happening in the world. I would like to find some way to help. I think that first step to help is to listen to other people and care for one another.

Now I have gone back to school for a masters in international relations and am in love with it.

My husband studies rhetoric, philosophy, communication and media for his work. Side note: He usually travels with me so most likely you will get to meet him. This is his profile, which he made recently. A lot of my references refer to him as well.

We now live in Dubai, traveling any chance we get so we know the world better. While we travel, people seem to be central for us to understand a place. We like sights (when we know the history) and can feel the connection to history, but mostly we travel for the people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To see the world through another persons eyes.

I really love the couchsurfing mentality. I want to perpetuate that by being a good host and a good surfer.

Interests

Im really interested in history (past 150 yrs), politics (usually in whatever country im visiting), media studies, feminism (east and west versions if there is a difference), philosophy, law, journalism, systems, project management, organizational structure and more.

I entered into a MA program for IR and find myself drawn to studying the impact of corporations and institutions on the political world.

Music, Movies, and Books

With music i like to think that its not about liking or not liking a piece of music, its about finding the right mood and setting for it. The right music at the right time makes the experience so much bigger.

Its hard for me to watch movies, for some reason I cant remember them or i hate them for being so flat.
However a movie i will always have a special place in my heart for is the Seventh Continent and Amore, both are films done by Michael Haneke.
I also really enjoyed a movie called Dogtooth.
David (the husband) likes films though, so talk to him if you are a film lover.

Teach, Learn, Share

What I can teach. I do have a lot of scientific training and can share:
Math (up to calculus and linear algebra), Chemistry (basic, analytical, physcial, not so much organic), conceptual astrophysics, basic physics, maybe even some history and politics now.

Odds and ends I picked up along the way:
Basics of juggling, basics of drawing, motorcycle repair, how to keep a plant alive, basics of biology, basics or gardening, bartending, soccer (although its been a very long time), basic life skills... etc.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A great time just hanging out. I love to just hang out and be with people.
Im always up for something new.
