ABOUT ME

Both of us are Christchurch born Kiwi's and have lived here all our lives. We've traveled around most of New Zealand, visited a couple places in Australia and have spent 6 months travelling in Europe.
We have a very wide range of interests which includes Aikido, motorcycling, gardening, cooking, good wine, fine whiskey, nice cigars and just generally having fun.
We're both very open minded, adventurous, outgoing and have a good (although some say strange and twisted) sense of humor.
we have a cat, dog and a few fish...
Can't think what else to write at the moment so will come back to this later and add to it.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We've hosted some wonderful people from around the world and stayed with some fantastic hosts during out travels. We've enjoyed learning of their home countries and travel experiences and being able to help them with information about NZ.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We've hosted several people from different parts of the world and recently have had the pleasure of staying with some great people also.

Interests

Calvin has been training in Aikido for about 10 years now and is currently ranked shodan (black belt). He's into hiking/tramping, photography and working with computers. Yes, he's a self confessed 'geek'
Nicola is a 'foody' and enjoys cooking, and eating, great food. When not cooking, she can often be found reading cookbooks, and food magizines! She also enjoys gardening, reading, swimming and creating/sewing various outfits etc.
we both love to entertain and often have friends or family around for a meal or drinks.
We both enjoy motorcycling and like going to motorcycle rallies when we get time, which isn't nearly often enough.

Music, Movies, and Books

We have very eclectic tastes in music etc. We both really enjoy jazz and classic rock. Our music collection consists of everything from Tchaikovsky to Iron Maiden and Beatles to Gatecrasher. Nicola is a real U2 fan, and Calvin likes listening to Led Zeppelin.
When it comes to books, Calvin tends to stick more to fact than fiction. Nicola reads a wide range of books and especially enjoys Sci-Fi books by authors such as Anne MacCafrey.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spending 10 days on Isle of Man during the TT races, and getting to see 'The Who' in concert (in a huge tent) while there.
experiencing a 7.1 earthquake in Christchurch, all without our home losing electricity, or any of the essential services, and without any damage. then the far more devistating and violent 6.3 that forever changed christchurch, luckally again with very little damage, although some of our friends were not so lucky.

Teach, Learn, Share

Nicola is a great cook and is very knowledgeable about plants and gardening, she's always happy to share some of her knowledge in these fields. Always interested in sharing recipes and cooking tips. Cuisine not just of feasts and festivals, but typical family meals etc.
Calvin is quite skilled with computers, dabbles in leatherwork and is a black belt in Aikido. If you're interested in Aikido, and going to be in Christchurch a while, then he'd love to introduce you to the Aikido Dojo he is a member of.
