About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Experience Italy and Germany before moving back to New Zealand (after 8 years of travelling and living abroad!)

ABOUT ME

Hi! We are Whitney and Lukas and we are from New Zealand.

We're fortunate to have travelled a lot. We really value the rich experience you get from travel, especially meeting new people.

We've lived in some interesting places - Canada, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, London and Buenos Aires.

We are both down to earth, genuine, friendly, quiet, open minded. We are both introverted - we listen carefully and enjoy intimate and deep conversations. After getting to know someone we tend to open up a lot more and then you will see our sense of humour.

We are both considerate and quiet. We are highly adaptable to any living situation and respect your space as a host.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We've not used Couch Surfing very much in our travels but would like to give it a go.

We see Couch Surfing as a tool to enable us to get to know other people. This is very important for us especially when travelling.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We've been guests through Couch Surfing once - in Cali, Colombia. We have been guests through Airbnb a lot though and have many positive reviews.

Interests

Whitney:
Swimming - in the pool or crashing around in the waves at the beach
Foreign supermarkets - I love wandering around supermarkets (or markets) in foreign countries. It gives an insight into the everyday lives of the people who live there.
Taking photos - I'm not a pro, but sometimes I get inspired to take some nice shots

Lukas:
Bikes and cycling - long distance bike touring, building bikes, utility cycling, cycle infrastructure. Cycle planning is Lukas' work and recently collaborated with specialists across the Netherlands to understand how to get more people on bikes for utility purposes (getting to work, school, shopping)

As our professions relate to the design and form of cities we are always keen to understand this aspect of places we visit during our travels.

Teach, Learn, Share

We can share our thoughts and experience about urban planning and planning for bicycles. We'd also like to learn your experiences of your city, particularly around how you move, so we can take that learning back to New Zealand with us. What's it like to be a pedestrian / cyclist / public transport user in your city?
