Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am well travelled, and my two kids, now 21 and 23, have picked up my habit as well. Travellers have often interesting tales to tell. Thats why.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I went shark Fishing With longlines off the Pacific coast of Nicaragua with some poor local fishermen. The boat was a hull made of one big tree. 70 big shark hooks was the gear. The bait: we harpooned a small dolfin on Our way out. It was used for bait for one week. We slept in hammocs looking up on the sky full of stars, waiting for the Sharks to bite. The Catch: Five grey Sharks of between 4 and 6 meters. We went out in the morning and returned 24 hours later. This was in 1988. It was a civil war going on in Nicaragua at that time between the US supported Contras and the Sandinista governement. The shark meat went to the Sandinista army, while the fins was dried in the sun and sold to an old lady from El Salvador who paid in USD.
