About Me

Smiley day to you!
I´m Klara, small town girl from Upper Austria who just finished her Architecture studies in Vienna and is eager to see more of the world. My friends have described my travel style a perfect balance of ready to go and stopping every once in a while to enjoy the moment. I love to try new foods, learn about a countries culture and people, being spontaneous and positive. Dancing Lindy Hop makes my heart jump and I cannot wait to add new cities to my list of places I have shared my passion and encouraged other people to try it out! Also, I love motorcycles, the sun and thunder storms as well. Catch me dancing in the pouring rain!

One story that describes me pretty well happened last summer on my way to Kalispell Montana to visit my host families (exchange year in high school when I was 15): The flight from Minneapolis to Kalispell was overbooked by 9 people and as I have never been to Minneapolis I decided to take the money and hotel room for a little detour. While waiting for us to be booked on the flight the next morning I started talking with a family of three (father, mother, 25 year old son). The conversation about our plans in Montana took a turn when I told them I was from Austria and they started talking in German perfectly with regional dialects! After 10 minutes of amazing conversation the Mom looks at me and asks "if you don´t want to stay at the hotel all by yourself tonight - we have a big house and live only 20minutes from here - do you want to stay with us tonight?" Took a second to listen to my people´s radar - no alarm or bad feeling in my gut so I answered: "YES!"
We had a wonderful time, took the same flight the next morning and even met up to sing karaoke in Montana the following week!

I live for encounters like this.

A little bit more about me:
Klara, 22, contagious laughter and in love with learning new things and appreciative of the small wonders of life.
I love fun facts, being outside and I'm always up for an adventure. Getting lost in the streets, finding hidden corners and places and talking to people is my way of exploring a city. Simply exploring places from a non touristic point of view: Dancing lindy hop with locals, having philosophical discussions and - laugh out loud. I got some good jokes up my sleeve :) I love random encounters and for some reason crazy coincidences tend to find me, I have quite a few tales to tell.

My hidden talent is for sure being able to sleep anywhere, anytime, so I am a very easy person to host - as long as I have a blanket, even a chair or the floor is fine with me.

One of my items in my luggage is my two cameras (Analog&digital), my diary and a good book. And snacks of course :) (I guess that´s four, also still figuring the not overpacking out, getting better at it though!)

I get super excited about food. I am vegan and love cooking - let´s trade some recipes!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Travel mentality: What makes a place special are the people you encounter and meet.
While traveling across Europe by bus and train, in the United states and now also in Indonesia - many people have opened their homes and hearts to me. The magic of every place is connected to the people you meet. See how locals live, move and are, get to know non-touristic spots and see the city from a different point of view is what I love the most.
As cheesy as it sounds: Strangers are just friends you haven´t met yet. Couchsurfing for me is a way to believe in the best in people, saying YES to new experiences and embracing adventures. Cannot wait to tell a story about you!

Interests

I love the outdoors, finding hidden places as well as reading, writing, drawing. I am ways down for adventures and dad jokes :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Too many on to pick from! The one that comes to my mind happened recently on a trip to the UK and was the genuine kindness of the people in Cornwall, Britain - from the lovely old lady at the community hub who took us around town tondraw shadows, to the guy on the bus giving me a hotspot to the lovely greenpeace advocat who dropped me off at my CS hosts house (he unfortunately didn’t leave a note - we had wonderful 5 days though, even spent 8,5hrs cruising around the coast line on his motorcycle - the absolute best!!) - first time ever hitchhiking, 3rd car stopped: a lovely couple on their way to get ice cream (my treat as a huge thank you) as they not only saved me from being trampeled over by a cow (normally I love cows, have the biggest respect of mama cows though, and there where 20(!!!) cubs) but also getting hit by a car - British streets are not designed to be walked next to.

The week in cornwall was so incredibly intriguing and I would love to tell you more about it!
