About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm on a mission to change the world through museums! :-)

ABOUT ME

What I love: discovering new places (and when at home, discovering the new in the familiar). Chance encounters and the rare moments when you catch a glimpse of somebody's true self. Soaking in a hot bath, reading and drinking milk. Experimenting with food. People who have the courage to live the life they want. Getting soaked in the rain. Objects that have a history and tell many stories - and museums that tell interesting stories about people.

PHILOSOPHY

Gratitude and joy. And a deep belief in life-long learning.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

By taking CSers on museum tours in London, especially the more hidden places off the tourist track. (such as the Hackney Museum, the Brunei Gallery and the Museum of Childhood) I'm always happy to share what I've learnt about London over the years, go for a hot chocolate and show you what it's really like to live and work here.

I'm also becoming something of a regular fixture at the London Dining Club events, which I enjoy immensely. One of these days I might even begin organising these events - perhaps some Kitchen Surfing in the garden when the weather is nicer?

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed within the UK twice (Glasgow and Liverpool), sadly my Israeli Couchsurfing plans in April 2010 had to be put on hold due to the Icelandic volcano eruption. I've been amazed at people's generosity in opening their homes and sharing their local knowledge and I've met so many interesting people through this community. Many thanks to all you inspiring people who make this happen!

Music, Movies, and Books

Films
I love going to the cinema and have a special weakness for old silent films - I just love how inventive both the crew and the actors had to be with the very limited means they had back then. Difficult to come up with a list of favourites, but if you pressed a gun to my head I would say: Rashomon, In the Mood for Love, Cinema Paradiso (the kiss scene always makes me cry!), Wings of Desire (the film that eventually led me to live in Berlin for a while...), Three Colours: Red. May well end up adding A Single Man to the list.

Books
I thought I'd cure my love of books by working in a library - didn't work of course :-) I used to sneak to the secret basement storage areas in my lunch breaks to read, and to browse, and to discover books that hadn't been borrowed for decades. I've now gone over to the 'other side' from being a reader to making books myself, and by a happy coincidence one of my flatmates is a bookbinder. Impossible to list favourite books - ask me in person.

Music
Started out with the Beatles, David Bowie and the Velvet Underground. I'm strong on 80s Europop if you're ever short of a person for a pub quiz. Love Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Nick Drake. Big fan of Bea Palya's music (pure joy), also Gogol Bordello and Anima Sound System. Listen to classical music on the radio while cooking.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have been smuggled inside Buckingham Palace to collect a sleeping bag.

Teach, Learn, Share

The basics of Hungarian cooking (fruit soups, stews and desserts).
Where to find the best cafes, wine bars and patisseries in Budapest.
Insider knowledge about London's museum scene.
