About Me
**Update: We are currently in the process of doing some major house renovations, so won't be accepting guests until late fall or early winter. Thanks!**
CURRENT MISSION
To meet as many cool people as possible!
ABOUT ME
We are a married, mid-thirties couple living in the Olde Richmond section of Philadelphia, about 4 miles outside of Center City. We own a little rowhouse that features a full second bedroom with a fold-out futon for guests. We also have a nine-year-old pit-boxer mix named Pepper, who is super friendly and loves to meet new people. We love having house guests and entertaining, and we look forward to sharing our city with you!
PHILOSOPHY
Treat others as you would want them to treat you (perhaps cliché, but always true). Golden rule.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We would love to host you if you are respectful, kind, and looking to have fun in Philly. However, if you're simply searching for a free place to stay and are not interested in any of the other benefits of surfing, then you should probably just reconsider and cough up the cash for a hotel room.
Please note that we get a lot of requests, so we will not respond positively to a one- or two-line message that is in no way personalized. We don't expect you to include a magic word that's buried in our profile, but we do expect you to tell us why you're interested in staying with us.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We have hosted many times and have met some amazing people. In fact, we ended up traveling to France to visit one of the first couples to ever stay with us, then met them in Turkey in late July 2012, and again in Portugal in August 2018. That is a pretty amazing testimonial for CouchSurfing!
Interests
We are huge music nerds. Meredith is a concert photographer, so we go to a lot of shows. We also have a rather sizable vinyl collection—it just sounds better! We love to travel and don't get to leave the city nearly as much as we want to. Two or three weeks of vacation just isn't enough. We think music festivals, especially camping ones, are pretty much the best things on earth. Regular camping trips also rule. You can't get much better than campfires and drinking with good buddies (except if you're doing these things at a music festival).
Other cultures fascinate us, and we adore hosting international travelers. We have met so many great people through this site and are very thankful to have had those experiences. Keep 'em coming!
Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: Anything Coen Brothers and mostly anything Tarantino. Big Lebowski, Fargo, City of God, Chinatown, American Movie, Pulp Fiction. We also rarely tire of Seinfeld, Louie, Arrested Development, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Curb Your Enthusiasm reruns.
Music: Bluegrass!, Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Talking Heads, Neil Young, Townes Van Zandt, Pink Floyd, Charlie Parr, Taj Mahal, Morphine, Radiohead, Otis Redding, The Beatles, Brian Eno, David Grisman, Gram Parsons, The Roots, Sharon Jones, Fela Kuti, DJ Shadow, RJD2, Tupac, Tribe, et cetera. Let it be said that Meredith is a huge Phish fan, but Hunter would be rather upset to be associated with that. (No judgement, folks!)
Books: Song of Solomon, One Hundred Years of Solitude, Infinite Jest, A Confederacy of Dunces, Sometimes a Great Notion, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, The Power and the Glory. Really anything by any of the above authors. Oh, and Bukowski. Our bookshelf is quite diverse!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Flying over the Alps in a propeller plane at sunrise. Climbing to the top of Mombacho, a volcano and cloud forest in Nicaragua. Drinking beers and singing with locals in a Madrid plaza until 3 a.m. Grilling fresh, locally caught mackerel while listening to the call to prayer from our balcony in Istanbul.
Teach, Learn, Share
Meredith can teach photography and plant care. She would like to learn more about yoga, woodworking, and knitting/crocheting. Hunter can teach you how to brew and would like to learn more about do-it-yourself house repair and renovation.
