About Me
CURRENT MISSION
to stop having missions; to stop planning everything
ABOUT ME
born in the middle west of the united states, went to university on the east coast and now live in new york city. soon im leaving to spend five months in argentina and south america before returning to school in my home state of michigan. from there we will see where the wind blows me...im thinking san francisco.
im frighteningly adaptable, except when i try. ive been a party boy, a yuppie and a dork. im now simultaneously (and somewhat alternatingly) all of these.
i dont like capital letters or apostrophes.
my ideal evening starts with a bottle of red wine and great conversation.
PHILOSOPHY
having experiences is more important than having objects. love (and im not talking about romance) is about all we have. i hardly live up to my philosophies.

Music, Movies, and Books
i hate these lists, but let me try...
music: okkervil river, raconteurs & white stripes, american sneakers, the walkmen, hot chip, bright eyes, arctic monkeys, kings of convenience, the submarines, the black keys, tv on the radio, lhasa de sela, fernandez fierro, 34 punaladas, el arranque, piazzolla, mercedes sosa.....radio stations: kcrw (los angeles) for morning becomes eclectic, kabul (buenos aires), wnyc & wfmu (new york). thank god for radio on the internet.
films: almost everything i see these days is in spanish. some great films ive seen recently include vidas privadas, la mujer de mi hermano, tan de repente, martin (hache), la cienaga, sin noticias de dios, tatuado, and almost everything with cecilia roth. im also addicted to the globe trekker series on tv.
books ive read in the last few months include paul auster's oracle night, tomas eloy martinez's el cantor de tango, paul theroux's the old patagonian express, robert f. thompson's [new history of] tango, william faulkner's the sound and the fury, a bunch of borges short mindfucks, and a bunch of travel books. see a pattern?
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
im often most impressed by the small things. when travelling nothing makes me happier than the feeling that i live in a place. however, in my experience that feeling is invariably naive and premature and is always debunked by a second visit someplace. but isnt that just part of the fun of going back?
maybe this is to say i like building relationships with places more than just seeing the sights.
Teach, Learn, Share
i make an awesome meaty pasta sauce that cooks like 12 hours (but only like 1 hour of prep). if you come for a few days and you eat meat, we can make some. i love being introduced to new music.
