ABOUT ME

I love traveling, and everything related to it. I was fortunate to be able to travel extensively between high school and college, and am very thankful for those experiences. I have so many great memories from so many places. Now I'm working full time in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I still go on plenty of short adventures pretty often, but I think another extended bout of traveling may be coming up soon...

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've surfed quite a bit and have just hosted my second set of surfers this past week (June 2012). Hosting is such a great experience, and I hope to start giving back a bit for all the surfing I've done.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I made it through Europe sleeping on friends' couches, but that was all with people I knew already.

Now I've had several experiences using this site, and all have been 110% positive. It is amazing to meet up with a friendly local and get the inside scoop on a place. It seems like everyone on here is a TRAVELER as well, and I think we are some of the raddest people.

Centres d'intérêt

I love traveling and photography and bicycles. I love camping, hiking, rock climbing, and exploring in nature. I also like sports such as soccer, snowboarding, and track, which I do here at university as a high jumper. I love watching shows on the Discovery Chanel, National Geographic, and the History Chanel, and learning about what they have to say.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

I listen to lots of very different music. Some of my favorite bands are Sigur Ros, Caspian, Jonsi, This Will Destroy You, Radiohead, and Russian Circles.

I love to read. Some books I've read recently are The Hobbit (for about the 10th time), Into the Wild, The Silmarillion (a beast of a book!), Sailing Alone Around the World, Robinson Crusoe, Narcissist and Goldmund, and The Brothers Karamazov.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

Spending 3 nights in an Alp Hut on the side of the Swiss Alps in October, and having it snow during the night! It is by far the most beautiful thing I've ever seen on this earth.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

Traveling is an interesting beast, especially being a young traveler without a lot of money. It's important to remember to just relax when things get stressful. I've missed many trains, planes and buses in my time. It used to drive me crazy and cause lots of stress, but I've learned this; It really doesn't matter! Things work out in the end, and some of my best memories while traveling are a direct result of "things going wrong."
