About Me

ABOUT ME

I perceive myself myself as a friendly, uncomplicated and open-minded person, with an interest towards the different positions and approached of people towards the world and their lives.

I was born and bred in Saxony (a country in the eastern part of Germany) and also stayed in this region for my studies (but changed cities from Dresden to Leipzig). After changing my mind about my plans to become a teacher, I am now studying to become a computer scientist for natural language processing.

I tend to do a lot of music in my spare time, but can also enjoy very much to go with friends to concerts, good movies or to the theatre. Good books can also occupy me intensively now and then. In remaining time, I also do a bit of sports (mainly running and hiking, but occasionally also biking and climbing).

PHILOSOPHY

I will simply drop two statements carrying a message I value:

"You make a living out of what you can get;
You make a life out of what you give!"
(Churchill)

"One seldom knows, what happiness is, but one often knows, what happiness was."
(Francoise Sagan)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I just learned about couchsurfing during the first weeks of my Erasmus time, when I was unable to host but was very grateful for numerous oppurtunities to stay with other members during my city trips through Britain. Now that I am settled in in Leipzig quite fine again I am looking forward to host other surfers to meet various people and also to give something back to the CS community.

Interests

Listening to music and making it myself (I play the saxophone in a Big Band and sing in a Jazz/Pop choir), Literature, Linguistics, Programming, a bit of sport and strategic fantasy board games

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Two summers ago, I have been part of a flash-mob on a central square in Leipzig. About 300 people just met, brought a pillow along and we had the greatest pillow fight I ever saw and took part in. After a few minutes the square looked like a Winter Wonderland from the plumes of burst pillows. A nice scenery and a lot of people having a lot of fun. :)

Teach, Learn, Share

If you want to learn some basics in singing technique or harmonic theory (conventional or jazz) I might be able to do some groud work. Or we can just listen to, share and discuss the music we enjoy.

It is also possible that I might have a solution (or at least some advice) for an IT-problem, but cannot cannot guarantee that I will have always have the knowledge for very special cases or enough time to spare for more complex issues. If you sometimes already considered changing to Linux as a free, alternative operating system, I am happy to answer question and give initial assistance.

There might be many other things as well. I think it's hard to predict what kind of input a host and a surfer can give to another before until they meet. Let's see and be surprised!
