About Me
ABOUT ME
I am mostly a product of my small, conservative and conflicting third-world society. In the meantime, I am doing a PhD in London.
My favourite activity by far is traveling: seeing and learning about new places and languages. Although I'd rather stay home reading a good book with some music on the background and a good cup of hot chocolate, or having a good chat, I also like going out for a drink with good company. If it's about getting out to know a new place, I'm ready to wear out my shoes. I also have a strong inclination for mythologies or anything that resembles them.
I don't really enjoy any hippie-like experience of tourism. I like traveling alone, meeting interesting people in the way, but I don't really take part in the citizen-of-the-world-idea based communities. (Update: I wrote this several years ago, but after living in London for a while, I have some new thoughts on this.. ask me :)

Music, Movies, and Books
Latin American Literature (Borges, Garcia Marquez, Maurice Echeverria, Vallejo, etc.) and others, especially Kundera, Kafka, Tolstoi, Chejov, Nabokov (etc. with the Russians), Mishima, Murakami.
I love mythology, from the Bible and Snorri Sturluson's Eddas to Levi-Strauss.
Music: I am a huge musical fan, mostly 'professional' (or 'classical'), (Mozart, Chopin, Stravinsky, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev). I want some film soundtracks too, like Amores Perros and A Clockwork Orange.
Finally, a big movie fan too. My favourites might be Eyes Wide Shut, Antichrist, The Man from Earth, Scott Pilgrim and along those lines. I am always looking for new things to see!!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Tikal by night, under the full moon.
Teach, Learn, Share
For anyone coming to Guatemala, I can share my knowledge on my country's history and contemporary situation, which I have gotten to know as part of my job as a social scientist. I take part in various political projects, so I would be glad to share and discuss political issues, mainly regarding Guatemala, Central America, Latin America or America as a whole.
