About Me
Hi there! I was born and grew up in the North of Haiti, spending a total of ten years on the island nation I call home. I enjoy making music, with guitar, ukulele, recorder, or voice, and listening as others do the same. I enjoy both deep and shallow conversations with people, as long as I don't drown in whatever waters the words may take me to (preferred if a certified lifeguard is present). My goal right now is to learn how to farm sustainably, and a distant dream I have is to somehow be a part of the movement that transforms food deserts into self-sustaining oases, that fight tooth and nail in the revolution to end corporate gain and capitalism's voracious appetite for exploitation.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm currently traveling in California alongside my good friend David Saulsbury. We hail from the miniscule town of Burnsville, North Carolina (the population of which significantly went down as soon as we left), which is in the mountains near Asheville. Both of us had originally planned to work at a goat farm in Willits, Mendocino County, but the host of the farm decided they couldn't take us on at the last minute. We then ended up staying one day at the saddest farm in California, with a man whose sadness seeped into the very garden soil we helped him weed. Swiftly deciding that our spirits could take no more of this, we up and left, driving south along the coast, hoping to end up in San Francisco for a time. We feel more and more that our lives are aligning with characters from Tolkien's beloved tale "The Hobbit," adventuring as per Belladonna Took's son Bilbo. We have become quite familiar with sleeping in the car, a Toyota Rav4 lovingly deemed Ravi Shankar (because it's a car, and a Rav4 at that). Happy to mix it up and stay on a gracious person's couch, and happy to return the favor with music, conversation, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches from our supply.
