About Me

Welcome to an empathic nerd's profile:)!

My hobbies and interests are widespread including both serious and not-so-serious stuff. Lots (but not all of them) are physically or mentally challenging. At the moment badminton, pen-and-paper role-playing and kinbaku are my most dominant pastimes. Usually I give a shit about social expectations and love to debate all sorts of things, especially relationship models, society, ethics, science and economics.

As I've an interest in almost anything spatial I'm working at the intersection of earth and computer science.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

About fifteen years ago I hosted numerous people during the great annual board game fair in Essen. Later I heard of couchsurfing (the principle, not the website) and liked it, obviously. Since then I had only good experiences (both with boardgamers and couchsurfers) without exception.

The intercultural aspect of couchsurfing is appealing but no must have for me. I'm totally fine with helping people who just need a place to sleep for a few days.

Interests

Games have possibly been my greatest passion for the last fifteen to twenty years. That includes online and pen-and-paper role-playing games, classical and modern board games, geocaching, mathematical/logical puzzles and everything in between and beyond. Today this is still a part of me but my focus has drifted to other things (see above). Some years ago I've been into photography (landscapes, people, emotions) and backpack-based hiking trips. I'm looking forward to refresh these experiences!

In 2011 I attended a college sports class on massages and since then I'm addicted to it (active/passive). In 2013 I discovered my passion for kinbaku (connective tying, rope bondage, shibari) and am involved in the organisation of local peer groups since 2014. I won't offer massages (to not be intrusive) but feel free to ask, if you're comfortable with it. Same goes for ropes.

One of the weirdest things I do on an irregular basis is correcting spelling and grammatical errors on Wikipedia while drinking tea by the gallon. Speaking of drinking... I love all sorts of tea (except rooibos), single-malt whisky and beer from local breweries. Within this taste I usually prefer extreme flavours – like Jever, Lapsang Souchong, mate – over average ones.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 2012 I took a ride on an abandoned Ferris wheel in Berlin. Two years before that I crossed the Alpes on foot (Munich to Venice) and lots of years ago, some friends and I created a ground-breaking trilogy of trash films ;).

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm (more or less) skilled in computer science, geoinformation systems, (digital) cartography, programming (Java, VBA, Python, R), social/board gaming, geocaching, German, shibari/kinbaku, badminton tactics and classic massaging.

Countries I’ve Visited
