About Me

2022 update: REFUGEES FIRST! I am hosting refugees from Ukraine (Ukrainian and non-Ukrainian) at the moment and do not have much time to host travelers. I encourage you to stay home and do the same. I will host you when Ukraine wins. Cheers.

Hey,

since you asked...here is my story ;) 😀🙂🤣

I did a PhD in linguistics at the University of Amsterdam. Now, I work with two indigenous populations in South America, documenting their languages since they are disappearing. I love my job; I love to talk to people, to listen to their stories, to travel. There is always something to learn from a stranger. Further, I love swimming, music, dancing, I don't smoke cigarettes and I don't drink alcohol (well update: I smoke and drink again).

I am originally Polish but lived in Amsterdam for 15 years. After that, I moved to San Francisco to work at the Univerisity of California for two years. Then, I lived in Paris, where I worked at an ehtnographic musuem. Then in Cairo where I did nothing but making friends. Now I’m back in Amsterdam and work at the university in Leiden.

I think this is important too: I am 35 and I have been hosting and been hosted since I was 16. It works and it's amazing, but there are also a lot of irresponsible users. Also, this is NOT a dating site. I am cute lol but FORGET it: this is not a place for this AT ALL! just saying.

Read me profile, send me a massage, and trust me

Also, I eagerly host academics coming for conferences to Amsterdam so hit me up if that’s what you need.

Finally, I do not always check in here. If you do not get a response within a day or two it probably means I am not available for hosting. I do not use phones much.

Some things I believe in:

- host and travel, but remove the response rate
- love one another, but do not get married
- buy art, not cocaine
- buy quality food
- do not work more than you need
- travel alone sometimes
- flirt whenever
- be vulnerable

PHILOSOPHY

"Whatever is happening to you is happening to me, the rest is self-consciousness, an illusion that things are happening only to you" The Knife, 2013

I am looking forward to hosting You.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I travel to meet people, I am no so much into museums, and all that. Couchsurfing helps me exactly in that. As a guest, I won't ask you to drag me all over the city and show me the landmarks, but I'd rather see your favorite spot, meet your friends, go dance in a place tourists cant find, or have a drink at your bar. You can expect the same if I host you. Importantly, in my daily life I do not use phones and simcards (I do not have one). I usually buy one when I travel though to make things easier.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had the most incredible experiences all over the world, including those tracked here and on hostpitalityclub.com, from staying alone in a tower in a castle to sleeping with three dogs on a dirty mattress. We can talk about it.

Interests

MUSIC: I love all kinds of music and hope to meet people who love that too. Go to festivals and concerts in your city together to hear the local artistis? YES, please!

LANGUAGES: I love languages. Language exchange? YES, please. Spanish now. I'd love some Arabic!!!

COOKING: I am an aspiring cook. Cooking relaxes me. I cook every day. I'd love to cook for you . Do you want to teach me something from your cuisine? YES, please.

Music, Movies, and Books

Ok...my profile is long enough as it is...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Why just one?

Blackout on a Caribbean island, while sitting in a villa on top of a hill, overlooking an infinity pool with a couple of candles around it, and a million fireflies all over...and not alone.

Also cool is just living in an indigenous village for a few months: sun, water, rice and fish, the four elements. Being alone, having time for thoughts, showering under the stars.

Africa Burn in South Africa, the little brother of the Burning Man, a festival where you feel you belong, a Peter Pan of the dessert.

Two months in Egyptian oases that no one goes to but everyone should.
