Couchsurfing makes it easy to get in contact with interesting new people.
I like the idea of not only doing a trip for seeing the sights of a city but to get in contact with locals. I guess it's a more interesting way to get to know a country or a city.

A thing that I will not forget was taking the nighttrain from Minsk (Belarus) to Vilnius(Lithuania). The treatment by the custom officials was kind of "extraordinary".
