ABOUT ME
Helpful categories: nerd, hitch-hiker, academic, anticonsumerist (2nd generation hippie), pastafarian, prog freak, Scorpio, goblin, INTJ, foodie, posthumanist, materialist. Considering how introverted I am it's peculiar how social I've become. Still, I prefer to listen rather than lecture - if you're talkative yourself, you might find me quiet.I've not been active on CS for some time - apologies to all of you whose messages I haven't replied to.
PHILOSOPHY
I am drawn to creative people who believe in the value of their work. In that company, I hope to grow in the same direction. I have finally admitted myself that I really am at my most useful when working on my most enjoyable ideas.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Whenever someone whines that they don't have enough money to travel, I tell them about cs and hitch-hiking. Traveling doesn't require money, only some tolerance for uncertainty. My experience is that CS people are good company by default. As a traveler (both CS and other methods) I've come to know the importance of first impressions. There is an immediate difference between open-minded and closed-minded people. As a surfer, I don't require much - a soft dry spot to sleep on is all. Everything else counts as luxury.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
A few weeks in Eastern Europe taught me a lot about trust and having fun. Awesome people.
Interests
Writing communal poetry while drinking beer, cooking and eating, bad jokes, speculative fiction, almost anything writing-related. Getting lost, meeting random people, exploration. Trees. Rivers. Rooftops.

Music, Movies, and Books
I study literature. That makes all sorts of narratives interesting. I especially enjoy speculative fiction: Simon Ings, Ursula Le Guin, Robin Hobb, William Gibson, Iain M. Banks, Greg Bear, Hannu Rajaniemi, Leena Krohn, Greg Egan. Peter Hoeg and Julio Cortazar rank high too, though. I'm drawn to anything that combines scientific and magical elements. Movies: Aronofsky, Gondry, del Toro. Lately I've attended some pretty artsy film festivals and seen some mind-bogglingly amazing films. Ask for more, these lists get old too quickly.TV: British comedy, HBO series, anything by Joss Whedon. I've a special soft spot for MacGyver.I think half of my friends are musicians. Frighteningly many are prog freaks. I've developed a liking to weird prog/jazz/metal hybrids such as Freak Kitchen and Mörglbl. My tastes might seem eccentric, but don't worry: I do adapt to all situations, and most often enjoy them too. Just play your own music!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
2011, 2012, 2013, 2014: working at the Midnight Sun Film Festival in Sodankylä, Lapland: a week made of movies, sleep deprivation, beautiful people and the never-setting arctic sun. I've served smoked trout to brilliant film directors and gone to sauna with ~30 other people.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm always looking for new music, new videos, new narratives, new events. I am always willing to discuss speculative fiction, 20th century philosophers and anything related to writing. If we have time, I also enjoy cooking and singing together (even if I'm still a bit shy about the latter one).
