About Me

My name's Kory. I'm a part time college student studying physics. If all goes well, I'll have graduated by the summer of 2017.

Winter is far and beyond my favorite season. I love the look of snow on barren trees or the way it weighs down pine. I think a part of this is because I played hockey from the age of three to seventeen, and it's still a pretty big part of my life at home. My father and I frequently talk about happenings in the NHL, and especially about the Detroit Red Wings, our favorite team.

I'm a little on the quiet side, but I think the thrill of my first solo travel experience ought to change that. If not, a drink or three certainly will.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am spending some time abroad. I have been to Europe before, but this time I'm alone spending some time in Russia, Finland, and Estonia. I wanted the opportunity to meet a couple of friendly locals, and maybe have a chance to go out one night with a group and not feel so foreign.

Interests

As I mentioned hockey, I hoped to catch a KHL game but it looks like they're all to be out of town when I am in town!

I play video games a bunch with my friends. None of them are local, so we use Skype to keep in touch. Usually 5 times a week for hours on end. We tend to meet up in Vermont once or twice a year and kayak, hike, what have you.

I love to travel. I don't get to do it very often, so I have to find time when I can. I own a motorcycle, and one of these days I hope to travel more of the US with it.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a huge fan of A Song of Ice and Fire and Game of Thrones. I'm waiting impatiently for The Winds of Winter, but I'm coping. I tend to dislike happy endings, so some books I really enjoyed were The Stranger, by Albert Camus, and to a lesser extent The Sorrows of Young Werther, by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. I got a dual language version and tried to read in German. I regrettably had to read it in English. =\

I listen to most music styles except rap/hip hop and American country. I enjoy folk music, rock, various indie bands, and some house/electronic.

Not really a movie person. I like them just fine, and will gladly watch with others, but when alone I generally don't watch any films or television.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I like to skydive. I went on one jump a couple years ago and had the opportunity to go cloud chasing. So I guess its pretty cool that I got to fall through a cloud. It felt like a cold mist, but you could feel the ice crystals when they impacted your face.

I have a video of it somewhere...

Teach, Learn, Share

I always like hearing about other peoples travels. If you've had interesting places you've visited, or want to recommend a place you've been, I'd love to hear about it! I can share some of my experiences traveling, though they might be one of those "you had to have been there" stories. I've been to Canada several times, and Germany once. Then several states here, as well.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can brush up on my mathematics and tutor you! Nothing spells a good vacation like differential equations.

Seriously though, whatever I have to offer. I understand I'm a guest. I want to be a pleasant guest, and maybe a drinking buddy for a night. If that's what you're into.
