About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I just finished my Data Science degree and want to go travel before starting my first job :)

ABOUT ME

My name is Roni and I was born in Budapest, Hungary. I grew up bilingual with Hungarian and German so I've been pretty international my whole life. When I was 19 I moved to the Netherlands to study there and I have grown to really love that country. I went on an exchange semesters in the US and in Berlin, Germany and then lived in Amsterdam for the past two years. I love traveling and also living in new places, cannot wait to see where I end up for my job later.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love people who do couchsurfing, they are always open-minded and very easy-going. In my old dorm we hosted a few travelers and it was always an amazing experience.

I cannot really host due to never having a proper apartment, but all the couchsurfing experiences I've had so far made trips like 10 times better than any fancy hotel could have.

Together with my boyfriend we did a trip on the east coast and the west coast of the US (in 2016 and 2017, respectively) and both years we have met really amazing people through couchsurfing, some of whom we stayed in contact with and met up in Europe :)

Interests

So my hobby is pretty much learning languages, I am fluent in 5 currently and I did some Spanish like two years ago. I've discovered the Add1Challenge in December 2016 where I aimed to learn speaking French in 90 days (that is the point - to learn a language in 90 days). And in June I started the same with Spanish.
In case you're curious:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jL6hb5Kz8KQ (Spanish day 0 - no Spanish though, never learnt the language before this day)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75kW3xB9L7E (Spanish day 30 - I have only completed one month due to traveling but hopefully in the next years some time I can continue with my Spanish)

So this is my passion and a very important part of my life. If you're struggling to learn a language I am more than happy to give tips or talk with you in a language other than English:) I also have some teaching experience, so may be able to give you some pointers.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like many types of music and books so won't list them here. I have been watching French movies lately and generally try to read/listen to/watch things in my target languages so now I'm mostly focusing on that. But I do like Harry Potter a lot.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was in Mexico I jumped down from an 8 meter high waterfall.

I did an exchange year at uni where I was in the USA for 4 months and then in Germany for 4 months. Pretty awesome year with loads of experiences.

I decided to spend a month in France in a family who only speak French to improve my French.

Teach, Learn, Share

I like to cook and in the past 4-5 years I have tried out many recipes that I have since then learned to cook well.
I also like baking, but I have less experience in that.

I can also help with learn languages by giving you some tips or just talking about the difficulties. I have learned to speak two languages with little outside help. This means that I learnt French and am learning Spanish mostly by teaching myself and finding ways to learn on my own pace. After a series of disappointments and difficulties I think that I figured it out.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook/bake, pet your dog and treat you to a few beers as a thank you;)

I am really open-minded and flexible. When you host me, I'd love to spend time with you. Not doing touristy stuff but seeing the city through your eyes and 'blending in'.
