Resumen
Sobre mí
CURRENT MISSION
Paying the bills and preparing to restart school next fall
ABOUT ME
I live the rockstar lifestyle, whirling from Manhattan to Brooklyn to Queens and all around the city, all so that others can bask in my radiant presence and thereby improve their scores on standardized tests. Or something like that. Dogs love me. My hamster, however, died quite suddenly.
PHILOSOPHY
I'm basically a Camus-style existentialist, so I believe in doing what needs to be done, simply because it needs to be done. While I'm not going to go out of my way to save the world, I am going to address the problems that I encounter, one at a time. Don't think this means I'm apathetic- I'm quite passionate about the fields in which I am knowledgeable, such as education, housing rights, immigration, etc- I just don't feel a need or desire to know everything about everything, and try to pick my battles, doing the best I can, here and now.
Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Not sure yet, actually. I put my friends up regularly for the time being.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I haven't used this site yet but have stayed on the couches of many friends over the years. Naturally, I have also put many friends up as well, including some multi-month stays, one of which ended in a marriage between my roommate and our surfer. I'm big on that middle-ground hospitality- making sure the guest has what he/she needs, without imposing my life on his/her plans. You know?
Intereses
Here are a few: I love the platypus, bats, zoology/animals in general, reading, sewing, needlework, welding (arc, mig, and oxyacetalene torch- fire rocks my world), traveling, theme parks (Disneyland all the way! And The Edge at Great America!), teaching, tattoos, fashion design, horseback riding, bungee jumping and such, beautifully-crafted literature, some lame fantasy novels, medieval manuscripts, religious kitsch, catholic church history, conspiracy theories (an interest not a belief- I'm not a complete nut-job), cooking, learning more about areas in which I feel uninformed (such as science, technology, more recent history, philosophy), taking stuff apart, putting stuff back together, power tools, and ever so much more.

Música, películas y libros
Since my beloved has forced me back into the world of television, I have discovered a love of CSI: Las Vegas and UFC fights. Well, love is a bit strong- we're more like acquaintances, really. I also like Numbers, which we get via Netflix.
Books, on the other hand, I could ramble on about for hours. Classics, mainly, with plenty of children's lit and fantasy thrown in for good measure. I love to read- up to 43 books so far this year.
Algo increíble que he hecho
I've 'lived' in 6 different countries (I'm including any stays of over one month in a set location) and seen a lot of things. Living and working in India and Thailand was probably the most eye-opening thing- the levels of corruption and poverty kind of blew me away, as did the friendliness and generosity of some of the people. This was compounded by coming back to the US to live in Hollywood, and realizing that we have many of the same problems here at home. I'm not sure that's what this blurb was asking for, but it amazed me.
