About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Explore the good old USof A with my new wifey and some solo travel too.

ABOUT ME

Maui, Jamaica, Italy and Berlin were fantastic experiences. Thank you to all the great people I met for making it so enjoyable. NEXT STOP... Istanbul?! Greece. Wait, no... Copenhagen? No... maybe the Balkans? Rural China? New Zealand perhaps?

I'm a witty, warmhearted guy who knows his way around a kitchen. I used to get paid to write TV shows in Los Angeles (Hell-A) but now I get paid to be entertained by little kids. I miss the pay checks but not the mindset of the people.

When I travel I like to get to know a place. I'm not really interested in running all over to see 74 cities in 11 minutes. I prefer to slow down and get the local flavor at the proper pace.

I get lots of surf requests so please understand if I can't accommodate you. If I can't host you but I offer to show you around or take you out for food or see something in the city you should take me up on it. I'll do my best to find something new and different for you to experience.

PHILOSOPHY

The problem will still be there after a short nap.

I try to follow two rules in life.

The Platinum Rule: Treat people the way they want to be treated. It's not always easy.

The Camp Site Rule: Leave the place you visit better than it was when you arrived.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I travel all summer long. Jamaica, this summer and Italy and Berlin in years past. I've lived in Amsterdam and Australia for many months as well. I've hosted in Los Angeles, NYC and San Francisco unofficially for friends of friends. I even hosted two couch surfers in Berlin when my host left me the keys to his place and took of to see a girl he met in Prague. Mostly I've entertained and hosted Australians that I met when I was in Melbourne. I've attended CS events in SF, Bologna, Florence, London and Berlin and look forward to getting more involved in the San Francisco events. I also organized a kayak trip to Potsdam that brought together a particularly fun and diverse crowd. I explored Cinque Terra with a couple of outstanding travel companions.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

A little time and effort put me in contact with a slew of interesting and kind-hearted people and it never seems to stop. Oh and I met my wife when I she visited San Francsico and I showed her around and took her for lunch and tea. I guess that's a pretty solid endorsement. But don't worry, we didn't date. Because Couchsurfing in not a dating site.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm pro movies, music and books. It´s daunting to even begin to list all my favorites here.

Currently listening to: Calexico, Camera Obscura, Elliot Smith, Gorillaz and Beck.

Currently reading: Gun, With Occasional Music by Jonathan Lethem. Update. It was stolen in Bologna. Anybody have a copy I can borrow so I can finish reading it?

I tend to like documentaries, dark comedies, and quirky dramas with well developed characters in them. I'm a big fan of The Wire and Arrested Development, and Mad Men. True Blood is okay if you like Vampire soft-core.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once tossed a stone 16 skips across a river. It's all in the spin. Why wasn't there a video recorder? I woke up one morning and found a family of ducks outside my door when I lived in Amsterdam. Out-hustling a hustla in Jamaica.

The top of Mt Haleakala above the clouds, above everything, out in the middle of the Pacific felt like being on Mars far from any earthly worries. Hard to describe the potent feeling it filled me with.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a big bag of tricks that I'm still filling up. Maybe I'll share one of them with you. I'm happy to share a recipe or some life advice I've gathered up. I'm also well-versed with American Slang. I could make you fluent with enough time.

Countries I’ve Visited
