About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Trying to find that apparently escaped motivation to be able to finish my studies...

ABOUT ME

Hello, My name is Kristian, a 1987-born guy from Finland. My permanent place of stay is in Tampere, Finland since I still have my scholarship in here. I guess I have been mentally a bit middle-aged since I was born, ´cause as a kid I only practised violin playing and went birdwatching as often as I could. Nowadays I don´t go birdwatching anymore and play violin at random only, but enjoy having good, challenging conversations with nice people and a couple of pints of beer instead.

I´m vegetarian, but I eat fish and wear leatherjacket and -boots anyway, so I dont take these things too seriously. What I take very seriously, however, is being honest. I really respect persons who dare to be honest and sincere, especially when it´s not easy. I guess I´m quite a typical (even stereotypical) Finn in this case, because I only want to say things I really mean. For me this is a matter of principle :)

And well, probably I´m slightly nutty also. C´mon, can a guy be something else than nutty if he can spend a couple of weeks by hitting flaming tennisballs with a flaming baseball bat and even call it work! (It´s all about art!)

PHILOSOPHY

Come as you are, I come as I am, and then we just have to improvise!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Surfed a couple of days with a very nice Spanish couple in Edinburgh, Scotland at the end of 2010 when travelling back home from student exhange in Glasgow.

Interests

Because of my field of study, I guess it won't be surprise for anyone to say that making art is somewhat my whole life. But don't worry if you don't feel that arty - as I said, my life is literally about making art more than talking about it. I'm widely interested in music and enjoy listening all the possible styles and genres from Sibelius's symphonies to Norwegian black metal as long as the piece is good. Nature, wildlife and being out there in the bushes is probably the best thing I know - even better than spending all days (and nights as well)working on all weird kind of pieces of junk (because it´s all about art!). I love hiking, haven't done it much yet, though. If you're looking for a company to hike with you, I'll be there! And I don't mind to watch a good football or ice hockey match either, if one happens to come my way.

Music, Movies, and Books

There's one name above everything else, and that's AFI - Californian rock band of which music changed my life about four years ago. Well, didn't get the bands name tattooed on my left wrist just for fun!

There will also always be a special place in my heart for the Scandinavian metal music. However, as mentioned, I'm not picky what it comes to music as long as the stuff is good!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My first visit in Lapland of Finland in August 2010. Althoug I have lived in Finland all my life, I hadn't been in that north before. We were staying for a week with my friends in a cottage quit close to Karigasniemi, one of those crossing-border stations between Finland and Norway, and had some short hiking trips nearby. I wouldn't have believed how deeply that one week could affect me. All that space around you, not a single another human being anywhere, you can see the past and the present all in the same (we even found some cartridge chambers that have been there since the War of Lapland in 1940's!) And the nature, hey... there you can really feel the ancient spirits talking to you!
