CURRENT MISSION
Building a retirement that's as interesting as my life has been in the past,
ABOUT ME
ALL ABOUT ...
I = we; Jack and I have been married for more than 30 years. We don't do everything together but it may seem that way to others. I play computer games, he doesn't. He writes poetry, I don't. We're both studying Japanese, hoping to spend a year in Japan; only he speaks Russian. We both read a little German, a little French, a little Italian.
For amusement we play with iSebastiani, a 16th century-style Commedia de'l'Arte troupe. We perform for non-profit organizations like museums and schools. We plan travel, and when we can afford it, we travel. (Like a battle plan, travel plans usually fail after the first encounter. Nonetheless, planning is part of the fun.)
PHILOSOPHY
Most people seem hard-wired to divide other folks into "we" and "they", then behave in ways to make "we" a small group. My world has been better because I seek to make "they" a small group. "we" share many ideals, common goals, interests that I'll never discover if I decide folks are "they".
Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Currently looking into CS, seeking a couch and contacting other people in the Boston area who have acted as hosts. I want to know if I'm the kind of person who can offer space to people who aren't friends-of-friends.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We used to call it crash space. I think that neither my husband nor I ever stayed with, or hosted, anyone at a further remove than friends-of-friends.
The best experiences have been ones that followed SCA events. I usually worked in the kitchen and brought leftovers away with me. We'd set the sleeping area to order, then make a brunch of the leftovers. Then we'd go our varied ways back to where we'd come from.
Intereses
Iron Age weaving technology, Archaeology, History, Science Fiction, Cooking, and anything else that arouses interest. I read, or hear, something that sounds implausible; then I can't resist pursuing it until I'm sure that it's true (however implausible) or that my leg's been pulled.

Música, películas y libros
Almost any, at least once. I've never walked out on any kind of music. I've walked out of two movies -- one when they started cutting up puppies to make a stew, and one where the gore makeup was too realistic. I don't read horror unless it comes highly recommended by people who know me well.
Algo increíble que he hecho
I convinced a professional engineer to rethink his conclusions about a city's new sewage disposal system while the system was still in the planning and early design phase. He agreed with me that the best system was tertiary (drinkable water at the outlet of the system); this was politically not feasible so a secondary system (fairly clean water, but CERTAINLY NOT DRINKABLE) was built.
Enseña, aprende, comparte
I can teach Iron Age textile-related skills -- hand spinning, naalbinding, weaving (on a warp-weighted loom.)
