About Me
Hello! I'm Kris, a Brisbane local with a love for nature and showing everyone what Brisbane has to offer. It is truly a beautiful place and I am here to show it to you.
I am originally from New Zealand but moved over to Australia with my family when I was 8 and grew up in the coastal suburb of Cleveland on Brisbane's south side.
After spending many years living, working and travelling all over the world, I have now returned home where I am in the process of starting my own guiding business.
Having spent many nights on couches around the world, it's my turn to pay it back. I'll be offering free outings to Brisbane Couchsurfers where I will take you on a scenic half/full day tours to see some of Brisbane's hidden gems. I have curated a pretty epic itinerary which includes....sunrise lookout over the city, a rainforest walk, stops at some of the best scenic lookouts, wild swimming (if you're into it), stops at my best local spots to see wildlife (koalas, kangaroos, kookaburras, cockatoos, galahs, rainbow lorikeets, snakes, flying foxes, the list goes on and on!) and if course somewhere great for coffee/lunch when we need it!
I can pick you up and drop you off from wherever you are staying around Brisbane.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I travelled a lot in my twenties and was fortunate to learn about Couchsurfing back then. I met a lot of great people over those years and am now in a position where I am able to pay it back.
As I have just started my own nature guiding business this year, (2023) I am looking for experience and some willing 'guinea pigs' to try out my tour itineraries on. This is one of the many reasons I have turned to Couchsurfing website, as I know there will be people in Brisbane, maybe with tight budgets, looking for an awesome Australian experience with a local. Eventually I will obviously be charging for these outings, but for now, I'm happy to do it for free, to give something back to the community and in return, I get some valuable experience.
Interests
I have always wanted to become a nature guide and am finally in a position to be able to pursue this dream. I have always had a love for nature, forests, birds, snakes and all things wildlife. These days, my main focus is on birds and birding so I'll be able to point out as many native Australian birds as I can, and show you some of the iconic Brisbane stars - fairy wrens, cockatoos, laughing kookaburras, cat birds, whip birds, tawny frogmouths, king parrots, fruit doves and more!
I also have a strong interest in scuba diving, having completed my instructor certificate in Airlie Beach about 10 years ago, I then moved to Fiji and worked there managing a dive centre on a remote island with my partner at the time, now my wife!
