About Me

Hey all! My names Kristen, I'm a 24 year old undergrad student studying psychology who just happens to love travel.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I had a 23-year-old crisis where I realized that I was scared of living a life that society deemed as appropriate and I was terrified of settling. So now I'd like to experience and learn and see as many different cultures and art and landscapes and architecture as I possibly can.

Interests

Of course traveling and everything that it entails, listening to all kinds of music, spending quality time with my good friends, hanging out with my 3 perfect cats, chillin' with the family, drinking and more drinking, reading and writing, learning endless amounts of psychology, going to the theater, looking at beautiful art, eating and just food in general (pescatarian), road tripping by myself- or with friends, hanging out with my dad in nameless diners doing sudokus out of the newspaper, learning about the zodiac/astrology and then assessing people or making decisions by it, spending time at the beach, hiking in the mountains, people watching 24/7, helping others, and laughing at all the funny jokes I tell.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It was in the summer, and I was working in a therapeutic day school for children with autism, I was in the elementary wing working with students who were mostly non-verbal. Anyways, one morning while I was driving to work, there was a group of one or two day old (I later learned) goslings walking along a very busy road. I tried to get them to hop back up on the median with my car, but they were so erratic and waddling all about. I finally stopped my car, causing the biggest pile up of traffic. I would grab as many as I could and tossed them in my back seat. They kept weaving in and out of different lanes, and I was holding everyone up chasing these little things, and there was my car so many feet back now just stranded with its blinkers on. Most of the other drivers would honk at me or just shake their heads, but there was this one woman who honked at me and had the biggest smile and gave me two thumbs up. Her support meant so much, and I wish I could tell her that. I finally caught them all and drove them to a wildlife conservatory which we took the students to the week before.

I later learned, in my baking car, one of the chicks had been left behind. Fortunately it survived, and I took it to live happily ever after with it's brothers and sisters as soon as I got off work. Two days later I was at a bank because I was leaving the country for my best friend's wedding and needed to authorize my cards use out in Punta Cana, and I called the conservatory to check on the ducklings. The volunteer who answered was so nice and updated me on all the chicks (even the one that was almost left behind) and informed me in a couple weeks they would leave the nursery and live in a protected wildlife area.

I cried and cried while sitting there waiting to talk to a banker. They were just a dozen birds, and they don't cross my mind much anymore. But I felt so happy and proud and other emotions I can't even place to know that all of them survived and are going to live the best lives. I've worked in a vet and have saved animals before. And I've seen so many beautiful places, and have done so many exciting things, and have met so many incredible people. But when it comes to an amazing thing I've done, it will always be those little goslings.
