About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Go on a journey, learn more about the world, meet some kindred spirits, and find myself.

ABOUT ME

I'm currently studying to get my bachelors in Environmental Studies and Policy. I just finished a 5 month exchange program in Sweden and spent some time traveling around Europe after that. It was amazing to say the least and I learned a lot about the world from the people I met and a lot about myself.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm always trying to figure myself out. I think it takes a lifetime to get to know yourself, so I never expect to completely know someone else. It's the same for everyone. The beauty is that we find ourselves by getting to know other people. We wandering souls can learn a lot from each other!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I try to stay involved as much as possible! Unfortunately there aren't many others in my area. I couchsurfed through Europe in June 2010 with a friend.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Just finished traveling around Europe for 3 weeks and during that time I surfed 8 nights and also met some CSs in different places. I haven't had a bad experience and met some people that I hope to keep in contact with. It was amazing!

Interests

I love to be outside! More than anything! My ideal day would proceed like this: hiking through the mountains for several hours, having a picnic on the edge of a cliff or a lake, then kayaking and hiking some more and camping under the stars. My ideal job would probably be with a state or national park. I love nature and animals and want to use my degree to protect it. Some people don't understand that, but I've lived in cities, suburbs, and in the mountains at one time or another. Trees, animals, fresh air, and starry nights are much better than concrete, manicured lawns, traffic, and street lamps.

I enjoy history. It fascinates me. I'm especially interested in the Holocaust, Ancient Rome, and Native Americans.

I love surfing the internet and learning about random things that I hear on the news or at school. Recently I learned there is an International Seed Bank in the Arctic circle where seeds are kept in case we lose genetic diversity of our crops from agriculture. I think that's awesome, and I know if you're like me, you're going to look it up on Wikipedia just like I did :D

I also like going to the gym. :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: The Departed, Serenity, Inception, V for Vendetta, Shaun of the Dead, Zoolander, Spirited Away, Star Trek, etc.
Books: Harry Potter, of course :D, the Tao of Pooh, Way of the Peaceful Warrior, Pride and Prejudice.
Music : Dave Matthews Band, Incubus, Jack Johnson, Tom Petty, the Killers, Death Cab for Cutie, Jimi Hendrix, Van Morrison, the Shins, and so on.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Done: Finally made it to Sweden to study abroad for 5 months! I'm the first in my family to travel outside North America and so I can't express how appreciative I am for the opportunity!

Done: Couchsurfed in Europe. It felt a bit risky, but great things never happen without some risk. Loved it.

Seen: Anne Frank Huis in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The Holocaust was a horrifying example of what people can do to eachother. I hope that her house and her diary will always serve as a reminder of that. It is a place I wanted to visit since I read the diary when I was 12, and I'm so glad I did.

Seen: The Louvre. What can be said? It's the most beautiful museum in the world.

Seen: Rome. The feeling I had when standing in what was Ancient Rome was complete awe.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: Well, if you need some practice with English, we can talk all day! Also, I think I can cook some things pretty well, and I know a little yoga
Learn: I think this is a trick question... what can't I learn from you??!
Share: Food, any experiences I've had in my brief time here on Earth, and one day soon I hope: my couch if you need it!
