Chi sono

CURRENT MISSION

Live life and learn

ABOUT ME

I'm a foodie who loves trying (as in both tasting and learning to cook) interesting local cuisine wherever I happen to be. As a child, I lived on a boat with my family and we sailed from Canada to South Africa over 3 years. This instilled a love of travel and culture which remains a big part of my life. I am currently back at school getting my Masters in Conflict Management and I hope to one day open my own practice in this field.

PHILOSOPHY

1. Things generally work out for the best.

2. Assume people are awesome and you won't often be disappointed.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been lucky enough to host a number of incredible surfers and have shared some really interesting experiences with all of them. I am involved in the local Victoria Couch Surfer community. CS people consistently blow my mind with how wonderful they are, I feel so privileged to be part of this group. I'm planning on surfing myself this fall when I head to Europe.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted a number surfers and they have all been wonderful. It is so great meeting such interesting people! I've also gotten myself embedded in the Victoria CSer group which is very active with events and meetups happening fairly consistently.

Interessi

Food and wine / spirits. As I said above I'm a foodie and love to try the different local flavours available.

Cultural experiences - This can be anything from visiting a local hot-spot, to a museum, to taking in the local scenery on a bike.

Dancing - I'm not a dancer and I don't dance well but I love to move. There is little better than having a couple drinks and dancing the night away.

Hiking/camping - I am pretty new to this but I really love it. I'm not one to do it alone but heading off into the wilderness with some good friends and at least one person who know's what they are doing is pretty great.

I love learning - It's why I keep ending up back at school after I'm sure I'm finished with it forever. Turns out I'll never be finished;)

Musica, film e libri

I have terrible taste in these things! I don't like sharing because they are not thoughtful or cultural. I don't tend to read or watch deep non-fiction and artistically interesting or inspiring tales. No, I go for pop and bubblegum in my entertainment. I'm not proud of it but I can't help myself.

Also, I'm a bit of a geek (not the "My god that girl is brilliant and quirky with incredibly impressive math skills" type of geek, the other kind) so sci-fi and fantasy are a weakness.

Current favourite TV shows - Game of thrones, Dr. Who and Dexter

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

I'm pretty easily impressed so this question is a hard one to answer.

I guess one of them was the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in South Africa. These guys brought victims and offenders of horrible crimes out to tell their stories to everybody. Offenders who were honest about what they did were given a pardon and victims seemed to be given an opportunity to be heard and heal. It was hugely powerful and allowed the country with a history of violence to go through a massive change without violence. Incredible... I still get goosebumps thinking about it.

Oh, and I travelled around the world as a kid. This strikes me as amazing... not in my own participation (which was cool for me obviously), but that my parents had the guts to toss two kids under 4 years old onto a 30ft boat and sail around the world for 3 years. Madness! I wish I was as cool as these people!

Also: Went whale watching in Canada, on Safari in South Africa, and celebrated the start of the year 2000 in Brazil.

Insegna, impara, condividi

I love to cook and I have read enough cookbooks and watching enough cooking TV that I can give a few tips in the kitchen. I am always thrilled to learn new things. Currently, I am attempting to teach myself to sew and make soap... making soap is much more my style.
