About Me

Hey! My name is Kristina and I'm 23 years old. I'm originally from little Belgium, but currently living in Singapore for a year. And after that... who knows? ;)

I've studied Japanese culture at the university of Louvain and after that Illustration in Antwerp.
Growing up, we frequently visited the Philippines (my mother is from there) so I grew up between two different cultures. My favorite part of those trips were the airports for some reason. I get a really great feeling when I'm in airports.

Traveling is such a great way to learn new things and to explore other cultures, which I find are one of the things that interest me the most. After this year I'm planning on taking the train through South-East Asia and the Trans-Mongolian RailwayExpress. I need to take advantage now that I'm here, I want to see as much as I can from this part of the world!

I'm a very relaxed person, not really loud and I might come off as shy at first, but I'm actually not :D
I can be a good listener and actually really love talking, because one of the things I enjoy the most is a good conversation. My english isn't perfect, but I do try my best.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Just found out about this place and thought it was a great concept. I've never couch-surfed before and I want to add this to my experiences. I think it's a fun way to get to know new people and places.
So far I've joined a few meetings, and they turned out great, I learned so many new things, and met so many interesting persons.

Interests

I have a big interest for Art. I've been studying it for years and drawing, painting, photography and crafting are some of my favorite hobbies.
But I also have a big interest for culture and history (and food). I'd rather wander around cities and nature than lay on a beach for hours. Japan is of course one of the countries I wish to visit before I die, almost everything fascinates me, and when I'm there I really want to try the art of Kyudo.

I like cooking, though I still have A LOT to learn. And I love all animals (except snails, they scare the crap out of me!)

Oh and I also enjoy concerts and festivals very much!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Anything! I'm really not that picky when it comes to music, I appreciate everything. (though my MP3 is mostly filled with all kinds of rock music)

Movies: With movies it's the opposite. A movie needs to have a great story, doesn't matter what genre really. As long as it's interesting, or else I'll fall asleep or just leave. I'm a frequent cinema-visitor, but lately I've not seen a movie that inspired me (all the over the top CGI get's boring). I like re-watching the Lord of the Rings, the Harry Potter movies and anything Studio Ghibli over and over again though, guess I really like those.
And I do love movie marathons with friends!

Books: I'm currently reading 1984 by George Orwell. Same as with movies, I like something with a good story. Something that goes really deep and makes me think. I loved Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro and The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Swimming with whale sharks, which was an incredible experience!
