About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Save the world?!

ABOUT ME

Ex-expat who has just returned to Sweden after six years abroad. After a stunt in the political bubble of Brussels I returned to academia and have just started a PhD in electricity transmission and renewable energy (which, believe it or not, sounds extremely interesting to me). As you could guess from the topic I'm quite an environmentalist, but also a feminist and left-wing even in Swedish standards. I very much enjoy discussions and generally meeting new people. After my six years of being in extremely international environments, I'm hoping to retain some of that international spirit in my life by re-activating my couch surfing account!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I joined couch surfing back in 2010 and used it a lot to host people in my shared house in Cambridge. Because of travelling and other living arrangements, I've not been active for the last year but am looking forward to getting started again once I have somewhere more stable to live (currently in the circus that is short-time rental contracts in Stockholm - anyone who's lived here knows what it's like!). Until that is sorted, I'll happily take part in other activities and very much look forward being the couch surfer and not only the host soon!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I love it! I've only hosted so far but love the idea of meeting complete strangers that I would otherwise never get the chance to meet. So far I've been extremely lucky with my couch surfers and am looking forward to meet many more!

Interests

I'm passionate about everything to do with sustainability, feminism and other equity-related issues. In other words, I love a good discussion and really enjoy sharing other people's thoughts. Other than that, I love going out dancing, good music, reading good books, gardening (although that's quite tricky in central Stockholm), cycling my bike, riding horses, skiing when the weather permits, and much much more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There's been so many amazing things. Travel-wise one of the top experiences is a trip I made in Jordan with some friends last year. One of the guys I travelled with, originally from there, had been recommended a bedouin camp in the middle of the desert which we couldn't find for the world. We drove and drove, got a flat tire, got lost and lost again, but eventually found our way to the site, where we were greeted with the most amazing food. Late at night, there wasn't much to do but go to bed so we cuddled up in our bedouin tents and fell asleep quickly. The next morning I woke up early and couldn't wait to go outside to see what it looked like. I found myself compleletly stunned by the beauty of the place. The tents, probably 50 or so of them, were all squeezed in on a small piece of desert inbetween some massive rocks protecting us. It was just like nothing I'd seen before. The day only got better with hours of travelling around in the Wadi rum desert and the trip continued as good with the most beautiful sunset I've seen in my life the following day in Petra. As you can see, I could keep going but I'll save the other travel highlights until we meet in person!

Teach, Learn, Share

Over the course of the last few years, I've gathered quite a bit of knowledge on sustainability, energy, climate and other related issues. At least according to my, CV I'm about to become somewhat of an expert on pricing of electricity transmission, but can equally well talk to you about the risks with offshore oil drilling, the pros and cons of carbon capture and storage, and why smart meters are a good idea.
