Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love Couchsurfing because it gives me the opportunity to meet up and stay with awesome people, and create lasting friendships and memories that would not otherwise be made.

Interests

I just graduated college, so I really want to travel the world. I also am part of a leadership development group called life leadership, so I spend part of my time educating my self, and meeting awesome people that want to make a difference in the world. I spend a majority of my time at the Southern Utah University rock wall as staff, and I also try to go climbing there everyday just for fun. When I'm not doing those things I'm usually planning my next adventure whether it is just a drive up the canyon or a weekend climbing, or planning a trip out of the states. I want to see the world. I really love helping people, and I spent my last summer Backpacking thorough the Uitas with some troubled teens while I was working for Second Nature Wilderness Program. I don't want to spend my life doing a nine to five job. I want to learn about people and see cool things so that when I'm 50 I don't look back at my life and wish i would have lived more. I also love doing acro yoga, and i started a club here in cedar city with my brother, so we get together with a group each week and learn new things.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have done many amazing things but a couple that stick out to me that i have done recently. First About a month ago I went home with my brother to see my family, and we decided to go on a hobbit adventure. So my brother, my mom, and I did our best to dress up as hobbits, gathered a few things and went to Flaming George Recreation area to adventure. We even went down to a local salon to get hair scraps and super glued it to the tops of our feet so we would look like ligament hobbits. We hiked around bare foot, and then I took the two of them repelling at a climbing area. My mom is deathly afraid of heights but some how i convinced her to lower herself off the cliff edge with a true look of terror on her face. That night we roasted some dove that we had shot over the fire with a stick. The next morning we woke up and ended our adventure with a sword fight on the beach. Looking back it was a very memorable experience but what really touches my heart is my mom overcoming her fear and going on an adventure with us. She works hard as an accountant and doesn't get out much because my dad works a lot so I was so happy to be able to share something i love with her. And make her weekend.
The second amazing thing I did was over this last summer, when I worked at a wilderness therapy program. We backpacked around with the youth and traveled any where from two to ten miles daily. We built or shelter out of tarps, and cooked over the fire. We carried everything we needed on our backs. It was an awesome experience to give back to the kids what they had typically been deprived. As staff we helped provide healthy relationships. And taught them how to express thoughts and feelings in a healthy manner. Some kids hated me and didn't progress while they were there and that was ok but what was really awesome to see was how transforming the experience was for the kids. Some gained self-esteem, some overcome there addictions, many were able to work through trauma. So i am pretty young but i have seen many things and had some pretty rewarding experiences in my life. I once was in there same shoes of being a troubled youth, I have been through things and suffered from my own drug addiction, and working through the process to overcome it. So it was amazing to give back and help youth so they might not have to stumble in the same ways that I have.
