About Me

I live in Sydney, Australia and spend a lot of time planning my next outdoor adventures. I work as an environmental campaigner trying to convince the Australian Government to make better renewables policies and spend a lot of time encouraging volunteers to take action in this area as well.

At the moment I'm having a short break from work after a pretty devastating federal election here. (We have a Prime Minister who is proud of stopping refugees from coming to Australia.. it's really depressing)

For years when I lived in Brisbane my home was the go to for out-of-town friends needing a place for few days and with four housemates we knew a lot of people. We also hosted people through warm showers (folks touring by bike). I love meeting new people and hearing about adventures they've been on.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

At the moment I'm on a short overseas trip to do some adventuring in Europe.

I like couch surfing because it promotes a caring world community to welcome folks you haven't met into your home and I like the idea of trading to get what you need, sort of an alternative economy.

Interests

I'm pretty active when I'm at home - I play netball and basketball and ride my bike everywhere. Also enjoy a good dinner party and boardgames. This year I've been going out for 3 day bike touring adventures and canyoning in the Blue Mountains in summer. I can also get lost in a good book.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm an avid reader, mostly anything fictional I can get my hands on. I've just finished reading Room by Emma Donoghue a very intriguing novel.
Some memorable books for me are Kafka on the Shore, The Skin of a Lion, The Dispossessed, Jitterbug Perfume.
As for movies, I prefer ones that make you think or don't have a typical hollywood ending, but I do watch those when I need to tune out.
I'm also a fan of cards and board games like Settlers of Catan.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

On a road trip from Brisbane to Darwin I camped at Kakadu National Park - stunning gorges with turquoise water and crocodiles! Even spotted a dingo or two staking out our campfire dinner. Talk about exhilarating!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you some card games like Euchre or 500.
Cooking a decent meal from whatever is at hand is a skill I've developed over years of house and food sharing with a weekly mixed vegetable box.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good conversation, a home cooked meal and a bun pun or three.
