About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Sto cercando degli alloggi lungo il Cammino di Dante e non trovo niente economico per una persona. Molto frustrante. Spero di riuscire di fare questo cammino nonostante.

ABOUT ME

I've heard people describe me as inspiring, open, good to talk to, "scarily independent", "the good kind of cool", "hippie-intellectual" and - my favourite - "actually a lot more interesting than you look".

As a couch surfer I tend to be quite flexible - I can be entirely independent, but I also enjoy spending whole days with hosts. I expect nothing, except mutual respect and not being left out in the cold, so I believe I'm reasonably uncomplicated. I just need enough sleep.

As a host I tend to be quite busy, but I like to take time to get to know the people staying with me. If I have free time it is up to you as a surfer, whether we do stuff together or whether you just use my flat as a base. I do, of course, expect respect towards me and my things.
Currently I'm not hosting, because the place I live in is not mine. I hope to be able to host again in the future.

PHILOSOPHY

Be open.
Know yourself.
If in doubt, be kind.
And if you want to be loved, love!

I'm a lover of language(s), but I keep discovering how insufficient a means of communication it actually is. Which also makes languages very interesting.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I used to host quite a bit, then my situation changed a bit and I also moved house. I hope to be able to take up hosting again soon.
I can give information, maybe also help, meet up and show you around, and maybe I can provide a couch for a night.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My main couch-surfing experience is with friends or acquaintances (either way). Via Couch Surfing I have so far slept safely many times - in Cluj, Manchester, Glasgow, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Durham, Stockholm, Västerås, Perugia, Brussels and in the past years hosted several people myself (from 1 night to a few weeks) - and I feel I gained/learned something from every single one. I think that along with WWOOFing, Work-Away and similar organizations, this is one of the most useful networking sites there are on this whole wide web.

I'm always impressed with couchsurfers' generosity and flexibility and I owe most of my hosts big thanks, because they took me in at last minute (even in the middle of the night) or even organised for me to stay with their friends when they were out and I needed an emergency couch. Some of my friends wouldn't do this, so I am always highly impressed that strangers do.
This website has taught me that there are many good people out there.
Couchsurfing is quite possibly the thing I love best about travelling.

Interests

I love the outdoors, hiking, literature, music, travelling, people, languages, beautiful places, good food and intelligent conversation.

I also just enjoy hanging out at pubs or in cafès by myself or with friends, or meet them for an extended walk and a nice long chat.

Oh, and good whisk(e)y.

Music, Movies, and Books

Impossible to summarise.

I like films that aren't all about clichès. The genre doesn't matter so much, as long as it's impressive, cleverly entertaining or I can learn from it.

Series like Doctor Who, Avatar, Firefly.

Music: all sorts: as long as it has a good melody and/or rhythm and/or good lyrics. I like dancing, but I also just enjoy listening. Irish folksy music gets me dancing, but I couldn't listen to it all the time.

I like reading and wish I had more time to do it. One of my currently favourite authors is Terry Pratchett.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I had the honour and pleasure of teaching some blind and visually impaired children in Ladakh, which was one of the most eye-opening, inspiring things I've done. I've stayed in touch with them, too.

I plucked up enough courage to take that leap on the top of Tryfan (picture)

My friend and I built a table from scratch. That was pretty cool.

Teaching definitely is one of the best things I have done.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm interested to learn anything I don't know yet and ready to share everything I do.

I can provide two open ears and some thoughts. I have an English and Latin degree. I can also teach yoga.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Help, when needed.
Thoughts, as they come cheap.
Time, as I usually have plenty of that when travelling.
Laughter - laughing alone is a bit hollow, sometimes.
Stories, because by now I have assembled quite a collection
Everything else I'll have to improvise.
