About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I've always played music but it's only just hit me that I've got to play a tonne more. Playing music, writing songs and poems, learning.
I love listening to people's stories, it's always inspiring.
ABOUT ME
I studied philosophy at university, which helped me realise that, though I love reading, learning is a process of doing. So, I packed my bags and left to Latin America, which has slowly brought me here, to Australia.
I've sailed across an ocean, I've supported myself with music, I've tried to live without money, I've gotten a job as a cowboy, a mechanic. Maybe it's my attention span making me switch between everything but I like to think that I'm a quick learner and a jack of all trades. I've got nothing on paper, but a lot of stories and experience in the bag.
I like sharing stories and mingling. Putting myself in situations where spontaneity happens naturally.
PHILOSOPHY
Always be a work in progress. Try and live with paradox, be a bit insane while wholly grounded. Live in the past, the moment and the future all the time.
Yes and no.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
By tying a thread of words between us all.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Great, too short. Time is the couchsurfers enemy. I haven't done enough couchsurfing as I mostly travelled without technology and the internet. However, it's a way of connecting to people and I can't say no to that!
Interests
I'll keep it simple and make a small list, I tend to blabber on otherwise.
Music - Tom Waits, swing, jazz, blues come at the top of the list. It's music that gives a mood and a setting which stirs my imagination more than anything. Hip hop fascinates me for it's intricacy with language. But that said, I grew up listening to progressive rock (pink floyd, king crimson, porcupine tree, tool), trip-hop (massive attack, portishead, archive...), stoner/desert rock (qotsa, them crooked vultures, mark lanegan...).
I would love to be reading more than I am, I'm just too easily distracted... Recently, it's been non-fiction: politics and mythology, just to add flavour.
Playing guitar, piano, clarinet.
Traveling.
Listening and learning from everybody's contrasting opinions.
Watching stand-up comedy... I tend to memorise them, and then blame it on an incredibly good memory rather than admit openly I watch them over and over... damn...

Music, Movies, and Books
I've covered music methinks.
Books:
"The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde.
"The Architecture of the Arkansas Ozarks" by Donald Harington (and his other books)
"the sandman" - Neil Gaiman and assorted other works.
Books by Henry miller.
Hunter S. Thompson
Charles Bukowski (for all him being an asshole, his brutal crumbling honesty gets me)
Tim Robbins
Movies - Memento, The Usual Suspects, Shawshank Redemption, cartoons in general, The Man from Earth, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One? I feel like I've mentioned a few. But more than anything?
Sitting in various countries waiting for time to pass by and chatting to strangers, friends and friends to be. I am grateful for the people I meet. The in between times make up most of times. Life's not a movie.
Teach, Learn, Share
I've finished a philosophy degree so I may not be able to teach you how to ride a bike. But I'll try, and I'll fall on my face and laugh about it. Then talk about the experience. Repeat.
Given an international background, wanderlusting and wonderlusting, I can tell you a few things about home and identity.
