Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Seeking employment in beautiful Seattle. Conditioning my legs for riding up the hills here. Finding my local brewery.
ABOUT ME
35 going on 40, except one day a week where i put on my adolescent sneakers and run like hell from something incredibly stupid I've just done. I like "newness" as a rule.... new cities (Milan, Zürich), new music (Chastity Belt, Eskmo), new friends (the ever expanding web of work, school and couchsurfing friends). New: good, old: bad. Well, not bad. But we won't get into that. I miss Tai Chi and feeling fit. I like dancing to the 80's or some retro-rockness. I like to write, I swear. And if I can ever find my muse again, I hope to get published one day.
PHILOSOPHY
The world's too round for the straight and narrow
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Well, normally there is a guest room, but it is occupied for the summer. In the fall again, the room should be available
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've surfed with people in the States, China and Sweden, and made mango pancakes for a pair of my friend's couchsurfers. I've hosted a few surfers in my past relationship. Still working on persuading my current partner about opening up our guest room in Seattle for couchsurfing.
Interests
I like to engage in all forms of snobbery, specifically though: music, movies, food and alcoholic beverages.
- culture
- dancing
- dining
- running
- movies
- music
- mountains
Music, Movies, and Books
Musical canon: Depeche Mode, David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails, Mogwai, Iron & Wine (though my tastes range far and wide, but mostly under the radar)
Writers That Amaze Me: Toni Morrison, Ernest Hemingway, Don Dellilo, Nathanael West, Ruth Ozeki, Joan Didion, Donald Barthelme
Movies for a desert island: Lost in Translation, Big Trouble in Little China
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I hiked up Mt. Sinai in Dahab, Egypt and watched the sunrise with my friends. And I survived Tiger leaping Gorge in Yunnan Province, China by hanging onto chains and rods drilled into the cliff face. AND I climbed the Great Wall at Mutianyu, which apparently makes me a man now or something, according to Mao at least.
Teach, Learn, Share
I consider myself a decent analyst of culture, but I am limited to the culture I've lived. I want to understand more. Literary theory, metaphysics and ethical theory, and film criticism are also in my bag. Nothing useful
