ABOUT ME

***PLEASE READ BEFORE ASKING ME TO HOST YOU: I DO NOT LIVE IN CARLISLE OR PENRITH. I LIVE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE HALF WAY BETWEEN BOTH PLACES (10-12 MILES FROM BOTH!), IN A TINY VILLAGE WITH NO SHOPS, PUBS, TRAINS or BUSES. I HAVE WRITTEN THIS IN THE 'COUCH' SECTION OF MY PROFILE, BUT NOBODY EVER SEEMS TO READ IT! PLEASE CONSIDER THIS BEFORE ASKING TO STAY, AS I SPEND A LOT OF TIME REPLYING TO REQUESTS TO PEOPLE WHO THINK I LIVE IN THE CITY.***

Hi!
I like smiling, walking, rock climbing, canoeing, peace and quiet, debating, singing.
I'm can be fun and outgoing, but mostly i'm quiet and prefer chilling out to partying.
I'm always kind, open minded, honest and genuine.
I don't smoke.

I had been traveling around Central America & Mexico from the middle of December 07 until June 08 when I found Oaxaca and fell in love with the place, teaching English there for 9 months before going back to my home town of Cambridge, England.
I then moved up here to the Lake District (Cumbria, Northern England) to study for a BA degree in Outdoor Pursuits, which I have now finished.
I have worked as an outdoor pursuits instructor since then, with a little EFL English tuition on the side, but I am now on maternity leave (baby due 20/5/2014).

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I haven't been able to host anyone yet because of my living arrangements since I joined CS. I have recently moved into a house with my partner and we have a spare room, but we have just had a baby so hosting might not be possible for a while.
I do not socialise much, but here are a few things that you might like to come along to with me:
...a folk jam in a pub near Penrith, 2 Monday evenings per month (£free);
...on the first Sunday of every month from September to May there is an open-mic and gig (folk / blues / jazz) night in Penrith (£3-5);
...every Tuesday evening (except during the school summer holidays) I sing with a Jazz / world music improvisation group in Penrith - you would be welcome to join us (£7.50);
...once a fortnight on a Saturday afternoon (3-5pm) at the Soup Shop in Penrith there is a very informal open-mic group organised by the person who runs the improvisation group (£2).
Or you can invite me to something, if you think I might be interested!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I stayed with Joel & Jess in Oaxaca (Mexico) for a few days, and loved it so much that I ended up renting a room from them for a couple of months.
I travelled with a CSer for a few days in Chiapas (Mexico).
I also had many great nights out with CSers when I was living in and traveling through Oaxaca.

8 friends and I cycled all the way from Cambridge to the Welsh border to the Big Chill festival, where we then spent the next 10 days setting up and running a bicycle powered cinema in a mini big-top. We showed short cultural, environmental and activist films for 6 hours each night, dressed up as 1930`s cabaret usherettes.

Teach: I am an English teacher so could help you with your English grammar. I could possibly also help you with beginner Spanish. I can teach maths up to GCSE level.
I have done some acrobatic type stuff in the past (trapeze and acrobalance) and am currently trained in a lot of outdoor activities like rock climbing, abseiling, canoeing, kayaking, caving, navigation, gorge walking etc.
I could teach you a little bit of beginner 'poi' and nunchaku (nunchuks).

Learn: I would like to practice my Spansih and learn Salsa / Tango and some easy recipes from your country.

Share: I have some good books which you're welcome to borrow. You could also borrow some outdoor / camping equipment if you need it.
