Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I would like to make people feel at home when they are farthest away from their own and cross-pollinate ideas, art, friends, adventures, food, languages and good times.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My partner and I were hitch-hiking from Montreal QC to New York NY- the cities are only 6 hours away from each other so we thought it would be one ride once we walked over the border- but that wasn't so. We had only made it 50km over the border and found ourselves deep in the cold dark woods of upstate NY with the sun setting and no ride in our future as we sat at a truck stop off called 'Betty Beavers' just off the freeway. Just as the truck stop was closing the last customer was filling up and my boyfriend took the opportunity to ask the driver for a ride.... he told us he was going know where near the city but that we we're more than welcome to stay at his place till the morning, instead of sleeping on the side of the road. So we took a ride and a couch with some young bearded stranger deeper into the woods.... finding out that he is a farmer and hanging out with him and his gangster farmer friends making schemes and smoking sweet tobacco. In the morning our new friend made us pancakes and potatoes with mint tea grown from his farm. He drove us back to Betty Beavers where we quickly caught a ride. From there on we all became friends and Stefan and I made trips down to Westport to hang out and work on his farm.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm not sure if it was amazing amazing but it was interesting and challenging: A 24 hour car ride through the desert with a goat tied to the roof of the car.
And another time: Being kissed and fed cookies by an unknown Baba in Ukraine.
