About Me

CURRENT MISSION

being more and doing less

ABOUT ME

I am usually a pretty happy person - I love to laugh, be with people, and be active. I like camping, travelling (of course), adventures of all sorts, good conversations, being silly, and just enjoying life. I love to read and learn about new things. I get really interested in things for a while, and then I change them up and find new passions, but come back to the old ones periodically. My current interests are drawing, digital art, handstands & walkovers, and teaching English as second language.

PHILOSOPHY

it was wonderful to see, wonderful to be in the middle of: we mud frogs awakening all around. we were awash in tiny attentions. small gestures, words, empathies thought to be extinct came to life. for years the strangers among us had passed sullenly in the hallways; now we looked, we nodded, we smiled. if someone got an A, others celebrated, too. if someone sprained an ankle, others felt the pain. we discovered the colour of each other's eyes. it was a rebellion she led, a rebellion for rather than against. for ourselves. for the dormant mud frogs we had been for so long. - stargirl

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My first trip outside of the North American continent was in summer 2010 when I did a language course in Kassel, Germany. I travelled for a few days after the program and Couchsurfed for the first time. The following year I went back to Germany and met heaps of fascinating and fun people through CS, many of which I still call friends. That summer I met my partner Daniel in Konstanz and he came to visit me in November in my hometown in Canada. In January 2012 we decided to travel Australia together. After that, we lived for a year and a bit in Halifax, NS, and hosted there. Now we are living in Germany and can't wait to start hosting again!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

They've all been fantastic. I have mostly surfed in Germany and hosted in Canada, but once we move to our new place I'll be able to do both again, yay!

Interests

A friend told me once he strives to be an amateur of many things - referring to the French meaning of the word, "a lover of". I've adopted this philosophy and declare myself an amateur in all sports, games (although when I first learn the rules, I sometimes get confused, but I end up really enjoying it regardless), crosswords and word puzzles, learning, writing, and COOKING! I like all crafty-artsy things such as scrapbooking and card-making. I am interested in reproductive physiology, human rights, relationships, new music, ideas, and people. I love to meet people who have ideas and interests that are different than mine and hearing about your passion and your stories.

Music, Movies, and Books

I can never think of all the movies I've seen/really enjoyed when I need to list them. I like movies with a good story.
Music - not to sound cliche but I truly love all music except for maybe scream-o. ;) I know a bit of music theory and would love to learn to play the piano one day. I can play guitar and clarinet a little bit, and I love to sing. I really enjoy discovering new music, so we can swap some music if you like!
I read a lot.. if you come over you will see my many books. :D

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Some cool things I have done lately:

-went back in time
(crossed the Date Line flying home from Australia)
-touched the ocean floor
(diving in the Great Barrier Reef)
-travelled about 15,000km in one day
(intercontinental flight)
-jumped and fell 188m from a bridge
(bungee jumping in Austria)

Teach, Learn, Share

I meet a really enthusiastic traveler in Katoomba who heard me playing guitar and excitedly asked me to show him what I knew in exchange for whatever interested me. We traded yoga for the few songs I knew, and it was a great moment because I realized despite being no expert in any one thing, I do many things reasonably well and can always have something to share. Some things I am interested in and can talk about are women's health, fitness, travelling, music theory, basic guitar and clarinet, English and excellent proofreading skills, organising and planning things. I can share a cooking adventure or a walk or any fun activity (or my passion for pole dancing!). I am willing to learn anything from you that you are really passionate about!

What I Can Share with Hosts

My partner and I can be quite busy with our work schedules, but when it works, we are happy to host.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Austria, Liechtenstein, Netherlands, Switzerland
