Overview
About Me
I'm Marco, from Macau, 21.
I'm currently doing my 3rd year (final year) of a bachelor's degree in International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
I chose this subject as I'm very interested in world affairs - What's happening in your country? What's the history of your city? There is no other way to know about a place than making friends with locals! I would like to know more and share experiences with each other! :)
I may be a little bit shy at the beginning, but later you will find me easygoing, friendly and eager to share a lot about my life with you.
Please go to my Facebook: Marco Kuan Long Lam, for more photos and interesting things about me!
** I can draw a portrait of my hosts and friends as a gift!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To make as many friends worldwide as possible, create more enjoyable memories and happy moments.
I enjoy travelling by myself. Meeting new people on Couchsurfing makes my trips meaningful.
I like taking good photos and write about my trips to newspapers, so I can afford my future trips.
Interests
Sharing our couch experiences with each other would be the happiest thing on the world.
Writing (a columnist for some Macau newspapers)
Drawing (watercolour, oil-painting. I like drawing a portrait of my CS hosts!)
Cycling (I cycle across the River Thames every day to school)
Playing with dogs, cats and little animals
Swimming (I love lakes and beaches!)
Badminton
Exchanging postcards (postcrossing)
**updated on 30/12/2016: I am a philatelist (stamp collector). I always want to go to the GENERAL POST OFFICE (the biggest one!) of a country when I am travelling. To see the architecture of the post office building, to send postcards and to buy stamps for collection.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Visited Venice alone on my 18th birthday, and celebrated my birthday with the Emirates flight attendants!
Was an intern journalist in summer 2014 for a Macau magazine and interviewed many interesting people.
In March 2015, I visited Portugal and was hosted by 6 hosts, all of them were incredibly nice people!! We had a lot of fun together. Since then I've been indulged in Couchsurfing.
2016: Summer - meeting my postcard penpal Ale in Guatemala, horseback riding in Cuba, visiting North Korea with a tour group - sneaking into the centre of Pyongyang at night and being caught!! Christmas - I visited a good friend who worked in a Chinese Free Trade Zone in Nigeria, then I continued my journey alone in Benin, Togo, Ghana.
2017: In June-Sep I spent 3 months in Nepal, working for an NGO (Centre for Migration and International Relations) which aims at protecting the welfare of Nepalese migrant workers. At the end of my internship I trekked alone along the Annapurna Base Camp!
