About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to live in the moment and enjoy the journey

ABOUT ME

Nina: It's not easy to talk about yourself, so instead I'll try to explain what you can expect when you stay with us, which will hopefully tell you something about us indirectly!

We like to get to know the people we meet, and we'll try to compare the ideas we have about their culture with their experiences. Even if we don't want to be prejudiced, we all have stereotypical ideas about the world and other places. I want to test those ideas. I like to find out what is different, how daily life is somewhere else. So I'm interested in politics, art and education, but I'm equally interested in what you usually eat for breakfast and what you do in your free time.

I love doing this while showing you our city. Antwerp has lots of great bars, musea and architecture. I love to go to bars and have a drink, but don't expect to be swept away in the overwhelming nightlife we have here - we're not into clubbing, although we can always give directions if you want to experience that part of Antwerp.

PHILOSOPHY

We try to enjoy life as much as we can, and we try to live in the moment and not to dwell in the past. But we are a bit concerned about the future, so we are very interested in ecology.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At the moment our focus is on hosting: we like to meet new people, show them around, listen to their stories. In a few years we would like to travel some more.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We already had a couchsurfing visitor a few years ago, she told us about this way of travelling. We think it's a great concept and we like being a part of it!

We like meeting new people and learning about other cultures and different views on the world.

We've had a few CouchSurfing experiences and all were great and special in their own way! We love it the most if we have time to explore the city with our guests!

We haven't surfed yet, but that will probably change soon!

Interests

Nina: likes literature, art, culture, and chocolate. Hobbies are cooking, drawing and singing along with the radio.

Kurt: likes (writing) poetry, movies and Duvel.

We're both interested in other people, cultures, stories and having fun.

Music, Movies, and Books

Nina is more of a bookish person, Kurt likes movies a lot.

Authors we like: Jane Austen, John Irving, John Boyne, Stephen King, JK Rowling, Tracy Chevalier, John Green,...

Movies: we have the largest collection of zombie-movies you have ever seen! We also have a soft spot for Bruce Willis.

Series: Sherlock, Doctor Who.

Music: we like all kinds of music. Favourites are: Leonard Cohen, Damien Rice, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Mumford & Sons, Regina Spektor, Florence + the Machine,...

Teach, Learn, Share

We like to teach and learn through discussing different topics and compare our views with those of others. This is a good way to expand your mind and share your thoughts at the same time.
