Overview
About Me
US Navy veteran, graduate student, karaoke enthusiast. One evening, I was with a friend in our local grocery store Kroger. I was feeling munchy, and was drawn to the cheese wheels in the deli. I would normally never think to check the price of the wheels, they're way bigger than anything I would need. But that night, I was curious. One wheel of Prima Dona Gouda was priced around $350, but the one underneath it was priced at exactly $4.20. I made up my mind to try and buy it. The cheese was obviously mislabeled, but I didn't see how I could be faulted for attempting to buy an item at the price it was marked. So I picked the checker who looked the dimmest and chose her line. She rang up the cheese wheel and said, "Oh, I didn't realize we sold cheese this size." That cheese wheel was the center of my snack table for every get-together I hosted from September 2015 till May 2016.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
The furthest outside of the US that I've ventured was Tijuana, Mexico, and Niagara Falls, Canada. I'd like the chance to meet and spend time with bright people from all over the world. Also, I think Bloomington, IN is an awesome little town and if someone were interested, I'd be happy to spend some time showing them my favorite parts. I want to warm up to the idea of hosting couch surfers, and eventually maybe catch a couch down the line.
Interests
I'm interested in hearing people's ideas for how their government can respond to their modern needs and how they would like their government to operate in the future. As I settle in to couch surfing, I'd love to learn new languages to help share in other people's culture. I wish to be respectful of other people's religions, but it is a topic I would prefer to avoid.

Music, Movies, and Books
I really like the folk music revival going on in the US now. I like live music performed on acoustic instruments best, but I'd be interested to hear any music that improves the mood of the audience. Shameless Harry Potter enthusiast. I'm not drawn to violence or horror.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I once intervened in an attempted murder when I lived in Waukegan, IL. While I don't ever hope for this situation again, I was grateful I was able to hear the attack, intervene in time, keep the attacker from running away, and call the police.
