About Me

Basically, I'm an island guy living contentedly in this strange and beautiful world of ours.

I'd like to think that I'm an open minded person and I'm constantly looking for ways to update my personal philosophy.

Honestly, I can be a bit of an introvert and sometimes it's hard for me to get the conversation started. But, once you get me talking, I might not stop. :p

My friends say that I'm funny, but it literally is just me being sarcastic. Idk, I guess you can be the judge if we meet. :)

Oh. I think I should say this here. On my research on Couchsurfing, I'm seeing that some people are using it as a hookup site. So I'll just make this disclaimer. I'm not here for the hookup! I'm really just here to make friends. :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm seeing myself get into the rut of work, school and home and I'm afraid that that it's all I'll ever do for the rest of my life. So I'm making baby steps to include travel in the mix. Part of this plan includes Couchsurfing. Because of commitments, I can't really travel as yet, but, I can meet, befriend and MAYBE host travellers. I think that's a good start.

Interests

1) As of now, my main interest is in renewable energy. I strongly believe that we, as citizens of this world, must turn to alternate sources of energy so that we can have a chance to save this world. In my country, Trinidad and Tobago, where oil and gas is still very much present, I've decided to do my Master's degree in Renewable Energy Technology to hopefully be of some assistance in its transition to cleaner sources of energy.

2) My all-encompassing interest is in music, both performance and listening. I have been playing the piano (on and off) for 15 years with Grade 8 certification from the ABRSM. I also casually play the trombone and kinda taught myself the steelpan. If you wanna count the recorder as well, then yeah! I got bars! :p
I do think I'm a better listener, though! I like what I like, I dont discriminte against genre and I pride myself with having a varied taste of music. I'm constantly looking to expand my my musical library so bring me your favourite indie folk band, your sheet music. You could even give me your mixtape, fam!

3) I really am interested in people. I love hearing their stories, their beliefs, their reasoning behind their beliefs. I feel as if the more open a person is, the more I can trust them. I wholly value honesty.

4) I wrote a blog that one time after uni. I don't update it much anymore, but I guess it proves that I could write. Lol.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music? Everything! Can't give a favourite but I'm currently obsessing over Woodkid's "The Golden Age" album. So symphonic!

Movies? Honestly, I'm not truly fond of most movies. But, if I had to choose, it would be Django Unchained.

Books?
And the Mountains Echoed - Khaled Hosseini (in progress)
The Alchemist - by Paolo Coelho (definitely encouraged me to find my personal legend!)

N.B. I haven't read for leisure in a while so it gets pretty YA from here on out.

The Hunger Games Trilogy (really loved it)
The Divergent Trilogy
The Uglies Boxset
The Maze Runner
The Book Thief
A Game of Thrones and A Clash of Kings (I made it a pledge to not watch the series but read the books. But I couldn't have gotten through all of them. SO DARN LONG!!!)
Etc, etc.

I'm also trying to use reading to get out of my rut and have an Amazon Wishlist of books that I need to clear out. So hopefully this list would start to look less YA.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Jumped off the Aripo Waterfall and ziplined in Chaguramas. Its amazing because I really dislike heights.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach? I guess I can teach you the steelpan or any other instrument I've learnt.

Learn? If you guys know Spanish, Dutch or Japanese, then I'd appreciate the lesson. :)

Share? I share my Trini culture while you share yours. Also, if you have a mini flag of your country, can you bring it, please? I'd like to start a flag collection.

What I Can Share with Hosts

For one, I'm not an amazing cook. So if you'd like the home cooked Trini food experience, I have this great cookbook and we could make recipes from it if you're up to it.

I can, however, share my time with you. I can even bring my friends.

N.B. because my home is under renovation, and because my schedule is not the most flexible, and because I live pretty far from most of the popular destinations in this country, I don't think I will be able to house people at this moment. However, if we do meet up and I like you, and you really need a place to stay, we can work something out.
